Movies in Review: "Into the Woods"

See what happens when you don't get out much. I watched the trailer for this more and was far from impressed, although Meryl Streep was in it, but I just didn't get it. Then all the hype and rave critiques about this movie started to take flight. Everyone was excited about this movie, which I didn't know was adapted from a play...Ooooooooohhhhhh...ok. Well I guess I should give it a chance then right!?

Just so you know, it's a musical. I'm only a fan of musicals when they're done the right way, meaning you don't actually notice the singing because it works so well with the story. This was one of those movies. The songs were great! I was thoroughly entertained from beginning, and almost to the end. Kind of a different take on our fairytale characters, but oh so interesting (for the most part). Red Riding Hood was my favorite, she had the most character. Johnny Depp was a little creepy as the Wolf, but I read his story was changed a bit from the play to appeal to a family audience (thank goodness). I also loved the Baker and his Wife. Anna Kendrick as Cinderella didn't really do it for me. Not that Kendrick wasn't great, but I just couldn't believe her as Cinderella ~shrugs.

By the time the movie got to the end, my joy for it changed a bit. Things seemed to fall by the waste side and got strange. It seemed that every detail in the beginning was taken care of, but the ending was left with holes. You know it says something when a movie that everyone was excited to see, ends and no one claps...smh. Up until the last 15min was great, so I will try not to score too harshly for this pitfall...B+

Movies in Review: "Unbroken"

Oh how I love a good war drama. I know I'm not the only one. There haven't been too many war dramas that have left me disappointed. With Angela Jolie in the director's chair I was still confident that she would not fail at giving us a movie that world tear at our heart-strings (don't most war movies do that? lol). I watched the trailer and everything about it read a winner.

Wow...winner indeed. The beginning started out a bit slow, and I felt we got a rushed back story of the main character whose story this is focused around, Louis Zamperini. I mean the story provides enough information about him to not be annoyed or disappointed, but it just felt a bit rushed. However the story movies along well once WWII starts. The story begins to really draw you in and you can start to feel it grip you. Everything following will have you angered, tearful, and hopeful. The actor Jack O'connell who plays Zamperini was just OK. It was the actor who played "The Bird" that stole every scene, and will make you cringe.

The movie wasn't perfect, but had enough to keep you interested in the characters and the story. When a movie moves you emotionally, it has done its job...right!?...A-

Movies in Review: "Big Eyes"

I recall the artwork featured in this biographical drama, it was the story behind the art that I was totally unaware of. Needless to say my interest to see this movie was peaked at the first review of the trailer. It was a bonus that two of my favorite actors, Christoph Waltz and Amy Adams, were cast as the lead characters.

There was nothing overly exciting about this movie, but I think this is what made it so good to me. We had the chance to really get to know the characters, and get involved in the story, which was very well written and performed. There are nice hints of humor that keeps you entertained. Christoph Waltz was superb and over the top as Walter Keane. You will find yourself loving and hating him at the same time. What I love most about a true story is when they show the people behind the movie as they are today, it just adds something extra to seeing their story told on the big-screen...well at least for me.

If you can appreciate a good story with great acting without all the unnecessary hoopla, then this movie is for you. It's a good one to catch as a matinee, or a nice date movie. Although more women will find enjoyment in it than men, it's still a nice film for both parties...A-

Movies in Review: "The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies"

The last and final installment of The Hobbit franchise. Although I was looking forward to this movie, the second installment left such a bad taste in my mouth my expectations for this last movie were kinda low. Besides far too often the finale only leaves you empty, pissed, or without closure. I was hoping this would not be the case for this movie.

This movie started out with a bang, and everything about it was far better than the first 2 movies, although the first film was more endearing for me. This finale had all the right components in it, and the title does it justice, because it was definitely a battle. The battle scenes were beautifully executed and entertaining to look at. The energy is high in this movie, so unlike the other films, a dull moment will be hard to find. The scene with Orlando Bloom's character defying that toppling brigde...Amazing! The Elf and Dwarf armies were spectacular. I could go one and on because my eyes were definitely in awe.

I watched this movie in IMAX 3D, and enjoyed my movie experience. If you can see it in IMAX I would suggest spending the extra few dollars. I don't say this about a lot of movies, but I wouldn't mind seeing this one again...A-

Movies in Review: "Annie"

Soooooo...the long awaited Annie remake was released this weekend and kinda bombed at the box office...smh. There was so much hype around this movie that it probably killed a lot of the interest in this remake. I was hyped when news broke that Willow Smith would be starring as the new Annie, how ever by the time the movie went into production and marketing started for it, I was kinda over it. Not to mention, I wasn't that impressed by the trailer. I think I was the only person who wasn't as hype about Quvenzhane take on this role. My biggest motivation for going was that Will and Jada Smith had a hand in producing it.

I was hoping that I would have walked out of the theater with a more positive view of this remake, but....smh. The opening scene totally threw me off. I definitely forgot that this movie was a musical, so when the music started, my skin began to crawl, and it's not that I don't like musicals ~shrugs. The first 30 min were way too slow, Quvenzhane performance was way over the top that it killed the cuteness found in the original Annie. I wish they would have done a better job with the girls they cast in the orphanage, their performances were dry and so was the choreography for their musical performances...smh. I was expecting so much more in the musical performance area. Now let's talk about Cameron Diaz who tried to imitate Carol Burnett's character, but failed miserably. There was nothing funny or genuine about her. I heard Sandra Bullock was originally cast, but unfortunately declined, and that's too bad. I did enjoy the performances from the rest of the cast, especially the minor characters like the Child Service Counselor, and the store shop owner. The scenes that involved the rest of the cast made for a more entertaining movie. Jamie Foxx was enjoyable and funny as Will Stacks.

This movie failed in so many areas for me, but this is just my adult view point. I do think the kids will find some enjoyment in it. However if you don't have kids, I wouldn't bother, just wait for it to be released on TV...C-

Movies in Review: "Top Five"

I love how Chris Rock's career has blossomed. I think he can do no wrong, so when I saw the trailer for his new movie Top Five, there was no way I was gonna miss this. I appreciate the way Chris Rock shows love and casts his fellow comedians, giving everyone some shine. I thought the trailer was cute, but not hilarious. My expectations for the comedy was low, but I knew I would still walk out of the theater pleased...and I was.

I enjoyed this movie from beginning to end. Chris Rock knows how to tell a story in a way that reaches his audience with a little humor as an added bonus. The movie had some hysterical moments, but the best part about this movie was the overall feel. It was filled with light dark humor, and interesting situations that may be familiar to some people. Everyone in the film looked absolutely beautiful, and Chris gave everyone their fair chance to shine. He should have taken some screen time from Cedric the Entertainer, but that would probably be my only complaint...lol. I was totally crushing on Rosario Dawson's hair. She looked absolutely beautiful. I wish they didn't show all of Kevin Harts scene in the trailer, making it less funny in the movie...Shrugs...

All in all another good one from Chris. It was cute, entertaining, and fun to see some of your favorite comedians, actors/actresses ,ix it up on the big screen. This would be one I would add to the dvd and keep to watch again...B+

Movies in Review: "Exodus: Gods and Kings"

Well this film has been met with a lot of controversy, but I'm not the least bit surprised. I think it's always tough to make a biblically inspired movie without displeasing someone...right? But most people were outraged by the all-white cast portraying characters in an African tale...smh. I was a little taken aback when I watched the trailer for this movie. No one seemed to fit in the role that they were playing. I wasn't excited about this movie, and I didn't get hemmed up in all the backlash it was receiving either, so I went to see it...

Shame shame shame on you Ridley Scott for this one. I honestly thought I would enjoy this movie, thinking maybe my feelings for the trailer were farse...but they weren't. You know a movie is bad when everyone seems miscast, like blatantly miscast. John Turturro as Seti...Really!? Are you kidding me right now? No No No...oh so wrong, along with Joel Edgerton as Ramesses, and the icing on the cake was Sigourney Weaver as Tuya...GTFOH! I don't really bandwagon all the race complaints for films, but this movie had me feeling some kind of way. All the colored people cast in the film were servants...really!? This movie felt so outdated and left a bad taste in my mouth. Why would you hire an all white cast then spray then down with orange tanner just to give them color? Especially when there are plenty of colored actors/actresses who would have fit these roles perfectly. This movie had so much potential, but was put in the hands of the wrong person. It was hard to enjoy the story when I kept wondering why orange make-up was used a stronger option than casting the right people for this story...smh. I could go on and on, but is it worth it.

It was hard to stay focused on the film as a whole because it was wrong in so many ways. The acting wasn't great, and some of those scenes were atrociously directed (the rubber baby scene...come on!...horrible) It earned a few points for visuals. It wasn't a horrible movie, but being a woman of color, it felt like I was knocked back to the 1960's...C-

Movies in Review: "Horrible Bosses 2"

Well I found this sequel to be totally unexpected. Not that I'm mad about a sequel for Horrible Bosses at all, because I loved the first movie to pieces. To this day, Horrible Bosses is one of my favorite comedies. When I saw the theatrical poster for this film, I immediately started laughing, that's how funny I found the first one to be. Although I didn't think the second movie would add up to the first, there was no way I was going to miss this.

Ok...so I watched this movie yesterday afternoon, and found myself still laughing about some of the scenes this morning...yeah that's how funny this movie was. Now don't get me wrong, not a great movie, but the nonsense happening in the film had me pissing in my pants. I can't with Day, Bateman, and Sudeikis. These men are fools, but have some of the best comedic chemistry I have seen in a while. That payphone scene still has me cracking up in tears even as I write this review. That scene with Bateman and Aniston...smh...wth...hilarious. The only character that was dry in my opinion was Jamie Foxx, who tried to force a laugh, and fell flat. Everything else about the movie I enjoyed.

When a comedy has you laughing out loud, and tearing up in the theater, then it has done its job in my opinion. I haven't laughed that hard in a while. Yes it was nonsense, but sometimes a little nonsense is what you need, especially if it's delivered the way Horrible Bosses 2 delivered it...B+

Movies in Review: "Penguins of Madagascar"

Is there anyone else with me when I say "About Time!"?. It has been almost 10 yrs since the Madagascar movies started and it has taken this long to give those penguins their own movie...smh. It's clear I was looking forward to this movie more than any of the original Madagascar films, although I enjoyed them as well, but my enjoyment came mostly from those penguins...lol.

Ok so giving these penguins shine turned the entertainment value way up. This movie was on high voltage compared to the Madagascar franchise. These penguins are hysterical, and there is never a dull moment with their crazy antics. The kids will have fun watching Skipper, Kowalski, Rico and Private getting in and out of trouble. I know I enjoyed myself, and my son and nephew also seemed pleased. Just like the Minions for Despicable Me, the Penguins are all anyone wanted to see from Madagascar, and now the day has finally arrived.

I left the theater with a smile on my face, feeling like my entertainment void had been filled. Critics are saying it's more for the kids, lacking full family fun, but I disagree. I think not only the kids, but the family will enjoy it together...B

Movies in Review: "The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1"

I have a love/dislike relationship with this Hunger games trilogy. I absolutely loved the first installment, and greatly anticipated the sequel, only to leave the theater very disappointed :/. So when the marketing started for this last 2 part installment, I was a little less than thrilled. I mean the second one left me extremely vexed with the killing of Cinna, played by Lenny Kravitz...smh. The rest of the movie also left little to be desired, but although I could have been more excited about this 3rd movie, I figured it couldn't be as bad as the 2nd...Right!?

O.M.G...I was pleasantly pleased by the Mockingjay. Totally different from the first 2 movies. The storyline really gets moving in this film, and tackles the political side of whats going on. Jennifer Lawrence is better than ever as our Mockingjay, Katniss. This movie doesn't have as much action as the first 2 installments, but the actions scenes in the film seem to take on a more relevant and powerful meaning. President Snow is nothing to mess with and his "toying" with Katniss kept me on the edge of my seat. This movie is also a lot darker than the other 2 movies. There is very little color in any scenes, mostly greys, black, and white. I looked forward to Effie's fun and colorful outfits, but you will see none of that here. They kept her character within the limits of the revolution that was happening. But her "make it work" outfits were still fun, and what you would expect from her character...lol.

This one had me more interested in the characters and the districts more than the first 2. Now we are getting somewhere. I was left on the edge of my seat, and I can't wait to see how this story will finally end...A-

Movies in Review: "Beyond the Lights"

I am a hopeless romantic, but for some reason I found myself less interested in seeing this romantic drama, which is strange. I don't know why. I liked the trailer, especially the soundtrack, but the story didn't really capture me. I am a huge fan of Nate Parker, and was happy to see him in another role on the big screen. I had low expectations for this movie, and was just hoping to be entertained.

I was pleasantly surprised by this one. First off, they picked 2 of the most gorgeous people to play the leads in this film. Gugu and Parker were giving me life. I can't even hate on Gugu, that girl is gorgeous. She looked just like an up and coming artist dealing with the pressures of success. I enjoyed her story and the message that resonates throughout the movie. A very well written and beautiful movie. Then lets add in Nate Parker...O.M.G! I have never seen a man look so damn fine. I'm sorry, but the man is beyond fine. He was the perfect man needed to stand by Noni's side. It will be easy for you ladies to fall in love with this man when you see him on-screen, I promise you that.

All in all, a very cute story. It made me smile, and sparked something I thing all women need, the ability to find your voice. Go see it, for the story, and the eye candy. I promise you won't be disappointed...B+

Movies in Review: "Foxcatcher"

You don't really see Steve Carell doing too many dramatic roles. He is an excellent comedic actor, but I like to see comedic actors be able to step out of their element and still deliver. I watched the trailer, and immediately was intrigued by Carell's character. This role was unlike any other I have seen Carell do, and I went into the theater feeling like he would be great. And sure enough, he was...For those who havent' heard about this movie see trailer link

Steve Carell was creepy and excellent as John duPont. Nothing like his comedic roles at all. Carell dives right into this dark character and shines. But I wasn't as surprised about Carell's performance as I was with Tatum's. Let's be clear I am not a Tatum fan. I don't hate him, but I do find myself surprised by the roles he is able to get. With that being said though, I have definitely seen improvement in his acting abilities with each role (but I'm still not convinced...lol). He was pretty good as Mark Schultz, and Olympic Wrestler. Ruffalo and Tatum did a really good job getting into their roles as Olympic Wrestlers. They had the look, walk, mentality that shined through. I kept thinking, wow, they really look like wrestlers. Unfortunately, although I rave about the performances, I did found myself a little bored with story. I honestly dozed off more than once. It moved a bit slow for me, and the running time could have been shortened by at least 30min. It picked up at the end, and left the audience a little shocked, as this movie is based on a true story.

I was intrigued by the trailer, and was definitely expecting a little more from this more. It had some fleeting shock value, and great performances, but the story was unable to fully hole my attention until the end. You will enjoy seeing Carell in this role. Just be warned that the story is a little slow, but decent...B-

Movies in Review: "Interstellar"

Ok...so now this movie...Honestly when I watched the trailer for this film, I wasn't impressed, but there was so much positive hype behind it I figured I had to see it, although I was hesitant. Can I tell you I almost let this movie pass me by because it had a running time of 3hrs...Uuuuuggghhh!!! Who wants to give up 3hrs of their life for a movie?...Unless the movie is excellent. Thank goodness this movie was damn near excellent...lol

There have been a number of people comparing this film to Gravity, but I guess that has a lot to do with the outer space aspect of it. But the movie reminded me more of Inception. Not that it was about dreams, but you know that thought-provoking migraine you got from Inception? Yeah you will like feel that here. I honestly was expecting to find myself bored here and there, because of the running time, but I was surprisingly entertained throughout. There are some slow spots, but would I edit anything, probably not, because it all seemed necessary for the story. I think a little of this movie got lost in translation for me, but I would love to see it again to pick up the pieces that I missed (I made 2 bathroom runs...smh). I didn't know where the story was headed, and at one point I didn't think it was going to find a conclusion, but then it does and now I find myself on the edge of my seat...Wow. I have to give a shout out to all performances in the film, especially the Robots Tars and Case. They were honestly my 2 favorite characters...lol. I was happy that Anne Hathaway didn't annoy me, she was excellent as Dr. Brand.

Interstellar was stellar. Some of you may find it to be too slow, but I think this is what makes the movie grand in the end. I wouldn't recommend seeing this movie late in the evening, because you will need the energy to pay attention to the story. Every piece of the story ties together from beginning to end. I went to see it in IMAX, but it didn't seem as grand as Gravity was for this extra cost...A-

Movies in Review: "Big Hero 6"

This is the animated movie I have anticipated the most this year. When I first watch Baymax in the trailer, I absolutely fell in love. I knew I had to make it a date between me and my little one. I wasn't expecting it to be exceptional, but I was expecting it to be good. Can I tell you this movie was far better than good!

This movie had me in such a great mood when I left the theater. I was watching this moving and found myself laughing out loud on more than one occasion, as were most of the adults. This movie was so cute and such a joy to watch. My son is almost 2 yr, and was entertained enough to sit through this 2hr feature. I don't know what to say about Baymax, all I know is I want one. Such a great character. The movie does get a little heavy but the other characters, including Baymax help to sweeten it up. Hiro's Aunt Cass, played by Maya Rudolph, is a hoot, I also enjoyed the character Wasabi...lol.

Who walked out of the theater giving out fist pumps?...lol. Me and my son exchanged several, as he kept imitating Baymax...so cute. This movie is a good one for the family. I heard adults weeping it up during one scene, and laughing throughout most of the movie. This movie definitely deserves an applause in my book. Very well done...A+!

Movies in Review: "Nightcrawler"

Well this movie played out nothing like I expected from what I watched in the trailer. Maybe I was texting or halfway not paying attention when the trailer was on, because I got the story-line all wrong. But I guess it really didn't matter to me what was in the trailer, I saw Jake Gyllenhaal, and that's all I needed to see to confirm my attendance for this film...lol

Ummmmmm...Nightcrawler....Ummmmmm...yeah you need to see it. I love almost anything Gyllenhaal has done, but this is definitely on a different level. He outdoes himself as Louis Bloom. There is this bit of crazy with this character that will have you scared as shit. You know how someone strikes fear into your heart while having a normal conversation that involves smiles but whats being said cuts like a knife. Yeah that's Bloom and he had me terrified. Bloom is like a rational crazy person, and I know that doesn't make sense, but that's the only way I can describe him, because you won't see him coming...lol. This movie gave me chills. Standing ovation to Gyllenhaal for this one.

I could say so much about this movie, but all you really need to know is that you need to see it. This is a crime thriller at its best, and there's nothing cliche about it. This movie is totally fresh...A+

Movies in Review: "Before I go to Sleep"

Truth be told, I am not the biggest Nicole Kidman fan. I kinda find her work to be a bit dry and dull, or maybe that's my own personal perception of her...but anyway. I didn't hear anything about this movie, and only came across the trailer when I was researching my weekend movie line-up. Again not a fan of Kidman, but Colin Firth and Mark Strong however, I am, especially Firth. Firth always gives me theatrical excellence, so I figured not even dull Kidman could ruin this movie for me.

Not only did Kidman not ruin this movie for me, she was the star of the show. This has to be one of my favorite performances from Kidman. She played the frail Christine masterfully. I was completely into her story and was rooting for her through it all. I loved how her amnesia was pieced together. The amnesia was a little annoying at first, but the more pieces that were put into place made for a pretty interesting story. There were a few ~side eye~ details in the storyline, but the unexpected twist had me messed up so much I let it go. The thrills were somewhat cliche, but the film had a steady pulse that will have you wanting to see it through to the end.

I enjoy a decent thriller, and this was one that didn't falter. It's not perfect, but it does the job. Great cast performances and a twists and turns that may hit you unexpectedly. I enjoyed it...B

Movies in Review: "Dear White People"

Not much promotion happened with this movie. I think I came across the theatrical poster twice in random passing, and saw the trailer once. The trailer and the poster slightly caught my attention, but social media fueled it. I searched for other trailers for this film, and found myself instantly intrigued. I'm a week late with seeing this, but the buzz to see this movie drove me into the theater.

Ok...soooooo...I don't even know where to begin with this movie. I feel like maybe I got something wrong because this movie has positively acclaimed reviews, and I walk out of the theater on the verge of absolute dislike for the movie...smh. Ok so I know it's a satirical  drama, and everything about it is supposed to be overly exaggerated to touch on subjects and make points in a humorous way, but there was an overload of ish happening in this movie. My head was seriously in a scramble by the time the movie ended. There were so many issues, and story lines being addressed that made the movie feel like it was suffering from a lack of concentration. I enjoyed the characters, although the writing sucked. This is a movie that could have used the help of some financial backing. The party scene in the movie should have been a major impact, but instead was a huge distraction because of all the background noise and weak production. I enjoyed all the characters although they were so cliche to the point where it wasn't funny and was all too see-through. I found myself scrunching my face and rolling my eyes through most of the movies. Like how many times are we going to keep referring/criticizing Tyler Perry movies in black satire? ~rolling eyes

Most of the movie was crappy in my opinion, but there were some scenes and moments that stood out. There are some beautifully shot scenes with the character Samantha White. There is also a movie theater scene which was reminiscent of a scene shot in Do The Right Thing. This was one of my favorite scenes in the movie. It had some humorous character in it. I thought the reality show producer seemed a bit pedophilish and creepy, but the last scene with him and the Dean and President of the school had an impact. I liked the ending...lol.

I was definitely hoping to like this movie more. It had enough star power, but did have enough financial backing needed to make it better. Sometimes too much information takes away from the point. This movie offered too much and almost left me with nothing...C+

Movies In Review: "Fury"

Oh how I love a good war movie, and Pitt has been a part of a few of my faves, so I was looking forward to him giving me excellence in this one. I loved the cast in the movie, although I was a little wary about LaBeouf. You just never know what you're gonna get from this dude...ya know. To my surprise though...Shia shined.

This movie was a little tough to watch and left me with a pit in my stomach. The story moved at a medium to slow pace at the beginning then ended with pure adrenaline. Pitt is the man. Could you have expected a better performance in this role from anyone else? Pitt had me feeling his pain taken in his service for the War. It seriously felt like these men had served together for years. LaBeouf gave the best performance I have ever seen from him. The script was the outline, and these actors gave it life.

Don't get me wrong, the movie wasn't perfect. There were definitely some scenes that dragged on a bit longer than they should have, or were just weird (to me anyway), but I think I forgot most of what I didn't enjoy by the end. The last 20 min of the movie was hell to watch, and I think I may have cried...I think...lol.

If you like war films, then don't let this one pass you by. It was a good one to watch...for the most part...B+

Movies in Review: "The Book of Life"

How beautiful did this movie look. Anyone who knows me knows that I have a thing for color, so I'm not surprised this film caught my attention. I wish I had the theatrical poster to hang in my office. The artwork makes me smile :). Watching the trailer filled my heart with joy. It's clear I was definitely looking forward to seeing this one.

So cute...so cute...so cute...this movie was so cute. The story for me was a bit meh...but the characters and beautiful animation made up for it. I loved the young Manolo, Joaquin, and Maria. They were super cute and Maria so sassy. Zoe Saldana as the older Maria was my favorite. I loved her sass, it made for pure comedy. The best part about the movie was the visual feast that was given. The colors and costumes for each character (especially La Muerte, ruler of the Land of the Remembered) were amazing. There should definitely be an award handed to this film for visual beauty, because it was outstanding. This alone is enough to keep the little one's attention.

I was expecting the story to be better, but it totally exceeded my expectations for visual beauty. I don't think anyone will care too much about what the story lacks, although I did. Although my eyes were satisfied, but my heart wasn't, I still think you and the family will appreciate seeing it...B+

Movies in Review: "The Judge"

Who doesn't enjoy watching Robert Downey Jr. perform on the big screen? He is definitely one of my favorites, and a "friend" in my head type of fellas...lol. There is no question The Judge was the only movie I was actually looking forward to seeing this weekend. My expectations were set at a bar I knew this movie could meet...and it did.

Downey is one sexy man, but I would like to complain about the horrible hair dye job they gave him. It looked like an at-home dye job...ijs...it looked a little fake. Other than that, I really have little to complain about. The movie was cast wonderfully, and performed even better. I am not the biggest fan of Billy Bob Thornton, but I absolutely loved him in this movie. He was sharp, in all aspects of the word. Dale Palmer had to be one of my favorite characters. He gave the movie a light, and humorous feel, making the movie more enjoyable. Downey and Duvall were superb with their dysfunctional father and son relationship. It was kind of hardening to watch.

There are no guns or whistles in this film, just a decent story and great acting...who doesn't appreciate that. If you enjoy a good simple feel that will grab at your emotions, then this is the flick for you. It flopped at the box office, but in my opinion, it's worth watching...B+

Movies in Review: "Dracula Untold"

I'm honestly not a fan of "monster type" movies, like Dracula, and any silly werewolf movie, but I am a fan of Luke Evans (plays Dracula), so I decided to give this movie a chance. If I didn't like it, it would still be worth sitting there to watch Evans on-screen for 1.5 hrs...lol.

Well Evans was definitely worth it, unfortunately the rest of the movie wasn't. The movie started out ok, but built up to nothing and my interest began to decline drastically. The action scenes were decent, but each scene kind of turned into the same stuff. The story also wasn't strong enough to have me care about Dracula or his family, which is what most of the movie was focused on. The movie had some decent movement, but I found I found myself less than thriller with what was going on most of the time...eh...

The movie is very dark, and unfortunately nothing extraordinary. I was expecting a bit more, and was surprised to leave the theater more disappointed. However I did enjoy the chance to gawk at Luke Evans beautifully chiseled face and body...yaaaassss...but that was about it...C+

Movies in Review: "Addicted"

I hadn't heard much about this film, and I may have seen the trailer in passing once. I didn't find anything super interesting about it except that it was based of the Zane novel...cha-ching! I didn't get too hype about this movie because it seriously looked like a low budget production. However, the interest of seeing a Zane novel performed definitely peaked my interest.

As I thought and suspected, the film was definitely low budget. Honestly it should have been a made for TV movie for BET...ijs. However throwing all that aside the film was cast with some very appealing and enticing actors, very suitable for this movie. Sharon Leal was absolutely beautiful and perfect as Zoe. She ooozzzzed sex. Can I tell you there was so much sensuality in this movie, it felt like I was reading the book and watching all the characters come to life. They put Boris Kodjoe in positions you would only dream of seeing him in...Yum! Tyson was my least favorite, but he served his purpose...lol. I am still fanning myself now from all that hotness on-screen...smh.

Honestly, not the best movie, but if you want to end the night with passion, this is the perfect date night movie to get everyone in the mood. Yes it's like that. After your girl let's Kodjoe, Beckford, and Levy get into her head, she will definitely settle for what you have to offer...Lmao...ijs. Unless you're doing the couples thing though, you'd honestly be better off just reading the book alone...C

Movies in Review: "Gone Girl"

I had planned to read the book this movie is based after stellar reviews for the novel from a few friends. However soon after the trailer for this film released, and I figured I'd wait on the book. Can I tell you the chills I got from this trailer. I was more than ready for this movie release. From the trailer, I was sure that I knew the storyline...boy was I wrong...lol...

I haven't seen a mystery thriller like this in a while. Most thrillers are easy to figure out, but if you haven't read the book, you will be in for some interesting twists. This movie kinda had me going insane (in a good way). You will find yourself OMGing through much of it...it's that good. Ben Affleck was amazing, but that's no surprise, he doesn't fail much in films. But the surprise shocker performance came from Mr. Tyler Perry. Perry did that, and proved that he could hold down a scene with an A-list actor like Affleck. Perry was perfection in his role as Nick's attorney and owned every scene he was in. There was no hint of Madea to be found at all in this performance...you go boy!

Let me tell you this movie was so exciting, I have to read the book, because although the film was great, something tells me the book is going to be better. This one will draw out so much emotion from you, humor, angry and surprise moments that will catch you completely off guard. I was glued to the screen on this one. It has a running time of 2.5 hrs, so you know I had to use the bathroom near the end, but I'd be damned if I was stepping away...yeah it's that type of movie. The only disappointment was the end. That's all I'm going to say, because if I say anything else it would be too much...lol...A-

Movies in Review: "The Equalizer"

Denzel Washington is one of my all-time favorite actors. There is rarely anything he's starring in that I have missed. But when I watched the trailer for this movie, why did I find myself the least impressed. I was giving this movie the straight side eye, thinking Denzel is too old to play this character (although I didn't know who this character really was), from the trailer it just looked odd. This will probably be the last time I doubt Denzel...what was I thinking...smh...

First off, the character Mr. McCall is too wonderful for words. He is like a breath of fresh air, that person you wish you could cross paths with. As the movie gets going I'm questioning who McCall really is, thinking I wouldn't get an answer. Although a very small part in the movie, I was happy to get some clarity about this man. But many of you may not care about that part when McCall is in action. This movie had a kind on Man on Fire kinda feel, but again, totally different and better. I loved how the action scenes were filmed for Denzel and for us the viewing audience, they were some great scenes to watch. To add to the entertainment value was the casting of Marton Csokas who plays McCall's nemesis Teddy. Teddy will put fear in your heart. Every scene this character was in had me cringing anticipating what he would do. The cat and mouse chase between these two was so entertaining to watch.

This movie was nothing like I expected, but far better. I enjoyed the light-hearted feel this movie had, especially at the beginning. McCall was an easy character to fall in love with. He had his wits about him, which was played out well by Washington. Although not as good as Man on Fire, but if you liked Man on Fire, then you will definitely enjoy this one...B+

Movies in Review: "The Boxtrolls"

Let me start by saying that stop-motion animation is not one of my favorite types of animation. As a matter of fact, I kinda hate them (ok maybe hate is a strong word), but I don't remember the past stop-motion animated film I have seen. However the trailer for The Boxtrolls hit me differently than the other films like this. This one actually looked cute and enjoyable. I felt so confident about this movie I even decided to bring my 1yr old along, thinking he would enjoy it too...talk about bad idea...

Now my child sat through the entire movie (I was so surprised), but I was sitting there cringing at what I brought him in there to watch. The movie is kind of gross and dark for my tastes for kids. Although the claymation was beautifully done, there was still very little entertainment value in it for the kids, unless your child gets a kick out of being grossed out. I was hoping to get more of connection with the Boxtroll characters, but this didn't happen. Far too much attention was focused on "Eggs" and the annoying little girl Winnie...omg she was so annoying. There a few cute and funny scenes that could have been played up, but the movie seemed to focus around cheese and a cross-dressing villain...smh. My kid reacts to entertaining shows, but the only reaction this movie got out of him was a jump of terror when one of the characters completely exploded on screen...smh.

I didn't find this movie to be up to par. The story had so much potential, but I found myself dosing more than a few times. I wouldn't recommend this for the younger kids, it's really a dark movie. You boys may find it more entertaining, it seems to have all the nonsense young boys love...lol. I was really expecting to like this one, but I left the theater annoyed I bothered to walk in...C+

Movies in Review: "The Maze Runner"

Who hasn't been looking forward to this one? I know I was. The theatrical trailer for this one was well done. I was expecting nothing but a great movie, but I guess I should have done some research about the movie first, then maybe I would have left the movie more satisfied...

This movie opens well, and everything else after is greatness. There are great visuals, an intriguing story line, and a phenomenal performances by the young cast. There is great suspense, I found myself jumping in my seat more than once. The movie moves at a nice pace so interest isn't lost. I just wish I knew that this movie was the first installment of a series, because I was completely satisfied with the movie until it ended...and you know how I hate empty endings. This movie built my emotions up, only to leave me flat in the end. Although it is a series, there had to be a better way to end it right? Most series end with you anticipating the next installment. This one ended with me rolling my eyes and caring less about the next movie. Which is bad, because for the most part the movie was pretty great...but that ending...smh...

I didn't leave the theater the happiest, but I did enjoy everything about this movie that happened before the end. I'm sure most of you will enjoy this, and won't leave the theater as vexed as I did...lol. Other than the ending, it is a pretty decent movie...B+

Movies in Review: "A Walk Amongst the Tombstones"

Liam Neeson movies aren't what they use to be. So I was a little less than excited about this movie, although I did find the trailer to be a little intriguing. Because of this, I bit the bullet, bought a ticket, and crossed my fingers as I walked into the theater. I wasn't completely disappointed when I walked out of this movie, just a little disappointed...

In all fairness Neeson has gotten a bad rap for playing basically the same roles. Well with this one, it was different...sorta. Neeson actually does a really nice job, and I enjoyed his performance the most. The story was a little slow at times, but for the most part it was thrilling and intriguing. It ran a little longer than it needed to, trying to build suspense, and sometimes they were far too slow at building it. The way this movie dragged at times is my biggest complaint. The excitement picked up at the end, but I left the theater with little closure. I wanted to know the reason for the killing spree (did I miss this detail).

The suspense was great, but the story was far from solid for me. I enjoyed Neeson in this role, so no complaints there. If this movie had been edited by 20min, it probably would have been great...C+

Movies in Review: "This is Where I Leave You"

I love a good comedy, but I love a comedy even more when it's not "trying"to be funny...ya know what I mean? This is one of those comedies where the humor is effortless and not forced with complete nonsense. This was one of the movies I was looking forward to this year. Well to be honest, I look forward to any movie Jason Bateman is starring in. He is one of my favorite underrated actors. Besides Bateman the entire cast for this movie looked phenomenal. I had fair expectations for this film, and all were met.

I enjoyed almost everything about this movie. I loved the way this comedy drama was written and played out. There was so much drama, but the comedy made it easier to take and watch. I found myself falling in love with each character. Fey, Bateman, Driver, and Stoll worked so well playing the Altman siblings. It was easy to see them as a real family. The playful brother and sister dynamic was my favorite part about the movie.

This isn't a slap stick comedy. This is a comedy that has a nicely written story, sprinkled with a little drama, and filled with heartfelt humor. These are the type of comedies I always appreciate, and I think you will too...B+

Movies in Review: "No Good Deed"

No matter how many times I watched the trailer for this movie, there was nothing in me that got excited to see it. I love Taraji and Idris, but this movie didn't look worth anything. So needless to say, my expectations for this movie were very low...and it is a good thing that they were...

This is a movie I would call "For Shits and giggles", because I was watching it knowing it was bad, but still found it entertaining enough to keep me interested. Point blank, the story was awful. Talk about predictable. Why did everyone seem so surprised by that so called "twist" at the end...really!? The twist didn't shock me one bit, in fact, I found myself rolling my eyes at this story. But as bad as my review sounds so far, there were things that I enjoyed. I did find parts of the movie to be thrilling. Idris played the hell out of a malignant narcissist. Every move he made had me on the edge of my seat. Taraji was also great. Although some scenes with her and Idris were hard to believable, they were still very entertaining to watch.

This story had so many holes it's hard to say this movie was good. But the performances from Elba and Taraji definitely gave this review a boost. I had to mull over my true feeling for this one for a while, because I actually walked out of the theater entertained, but I also knew this movie was no good...lol. My advice to you is go see this one with low expectations and you may find it more entertaining...C+

Movies in Review: "The Drop"

I saw the trailer for this movie only once for the first time last weekend. I had heard nothing about this movie before this trailer, but this was all I needed to confirm it as a must see for me. If you have never heard about this movie, it stars the late James Gandolfini, and the oh so sexy Tom Hardy...see insert...

Beard or no beard it still equals GORGEOUS! Ok...back to my review...

Besides being a fan of Hardy's good looks, I am also a huge fan of his body of work,,. Lawless, and Warrior just to name a few of his movies. My expectations were right where they needed to be for this movie and its phenomenal cast, and I got everything I expected.

Let me just say the movie felt weird...not bad...but the way the story flowed was weird, but it was this weirdness that made the film more intriguing and unexpected. Hardy was flawless as Bob. His character seems of centered, and this is what makes him intriguing. He felt like a mystery, and you will find yourself trying to figure out his angle. Hardy was definitely my favorite character, but I also enjoyed the performance from Matthias as Eric Deeds. Matthias's character also added to that strange weirdness I kept feeling through the film. He and Hardy worked so well off each other, and you will find yourselves stunned by the end.

This movie was almost perfection for me. I love watching a movie that catches me completely off guard. This movie is filled with interesting characters and great story. It feels a little empty in spots, but it works for the story. If you haven't heard of it, it is my recommendation you put it on your list to watch...A-

Movies in Review : "The November Man"

Well kind of a slow couple of weekends for movie releases, but I am enjoying this down time. This review is a late post. Movie was released labor day weekend and I was away, unable to see any movies. The November Man was definitely a film I wanted to see, so I was happy that there wasn't anything released this weekend I wanted to see :). Did anyone get a chance to see this one? Reviews for this movie have been less than positive, so I'm sitting here wondering why I enjoyed it so much...lol.

Pierce Brosnan is always so great in spy thrillers, and this one is no exception. He is all types of awesome in this movie. This movie kept my stomach in knots watching it with unexpected events happening throughout. The story is good enough to keep your interest, although slightly off in some spots, but nothing to make you worry because the story has such great movement. You don't get overwhelmed with too much action which gives the story a chance to develop nicely. On a side note...I saw the trailer 50 Shades of Grey and kept thinking how perfect Luke Bracey, who plays David Mason in The November man, would have played Christian Grey...smh. Sorry...but this role looks miscast...ijs...Anyway...

If you like action and a story that keeps you planted in your seat because you want to see how it ends, then this movie is for you. This movie has a decent story with great movement, cool action scenes that aren't overbearing, and sexy Pierce Brosnan...B+

Movies in Review: "If I stay"

This movie probably won't move most of you, and I'm sure many of you have very little interest in seeing it. I'm a fan of a good "chick flick", and I found the trailer and theatrical poster to my liking, which intrigued my interest to see this film. I also heard it was a bit of a tear jerker, and this weekend I was in need of a good cry...

This movie was all Chloe Grace Moretz...wow. I'm not the biggest fan of hers, but I do always find respect for her performances, but her performance in this film set me on a different level with her. She was absolutely perfect as Mia Hall. It was said Dakota Fanning was also up for this role, but as much as I love Fanning, I don't think she would have done Mia the justice. Moretz was so soft, beautiful and sweet. And don't get me started on the music in the film. She had me thinking she was really playing that beautiful cello...nicely done. Besides Moretz, I loved the story and the other characters involved. Mia and her best friend played by Liana Liberato felt like a genuine friendship. Mia's family will have you laughing, and falling in love with their family dynamic. Then there is the love story, which did a great job of being overkill in the story.

This movie is super sweet, moving, and may have a few of you wiping some tears away. This movie was beautifully directed and had great acting performances. It will hold your attention until the credits roll, that is if you're in to movies like these...lol. I enjoyed it...B

Movies in Review: "Expendables 3"

Really? Another one? After the disappointing second installment of this franchise, I had little desire to see this one. It seems that everyone else felt the same way I did, because this movie was an epic fail at the box office with only $16 million in ticket sales its opening weekend. Even worse, it placed behind that abysmal of a comedy "Let's Be Cops"...smh. Well after seeing this one, let's just hope Stallone got the picture and doesn't waste his time with a fourth.

There is just too much going on in this movie, with the Expendables finding themselves in situations you know there is no possible way for them to survive. But with all that being said, it's still entertaining to watch...lol. What I enjoyed most about this movie were some of the new character additions, including Snipes, whose performance was way better than I expected, Banderas, Grammar, Gibson and Ford. They each brought life into a movie that probably would have been a mess. What I didn't like was the introduction of the younger characters. The new recruits were far less interesting and took away too much screen time that use to be filled with the humorous and entertaining banter among the older crew. Besides the over-the-top action scenes, I found myself mostly bored.

The 3 testosterone filled action scenes in the movie were great to watch, but everything else besides that was a bore. This movie had better actors, who got very little screen time, but this movie lost a lot of its comedic value which made the first one so great. I would wait for RedBox for this one...D+

Movies in Review: "Let's Be Cops"

Ok let me first be honest and say that the main reason I went to see this movie is because I have a serious crush on Damon Wayans Jr. I thought the trailer was ok and looked funny, but Wayans looked HOT, so I went just so my eyes could enjoy the scenery. If the movie also happened to be funny, it would just be an added bonus. Unfortunately, the bonus was not achieved...

Talk about lame and you would be referring to this movie. Ugh! Straight non-sense. To make it so bad, this movie could have really been funny, but nothing about it worked. I'm sorry I have to say this, but as cute as Wayans is...not the best on-screen comedic actor. His deliverance seemed contrived. He and Jake Johnson's chemistry was off. Honestly, Johnson was great, and the movie probably would have been better with another co-star...smh. I snoozed through most of this movie, but I'm sure I didn't miss much. This is one of those movies who's entertainment value would be boosted if you went to see it high...ijs...

This filmed rocked at the box office it's opening weekend, but was far from being a rockin movie. This is one you should download for free, it doesn't even deserve RedBox...F :/

Movies in Review: "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles"

I think I was the only one who wasn't excited to see this movie. As a matter of fact, I was this close to letting this pass me by. The only reason I went to see it was because I was pissed about paying to see Into the Storm...lol, and also everyone else seemed to think it was going to be good...surprisingly...they were right.

The trailer for this movie did not appeal to me at all. The motion-action characters looked sooooo creepy, especially Splinter. Omg...Splinter looked so gross. I wanted to Shredder to kill him immediately just so I wouldn't have to look at him for the rest of the movie...lol. The turtles looked creepy also, and it was hard to see them as Teenagers, they looked like grown ass man turtles...smh. It took me a while to get use to their voices too. Was it me, or did all their voices just seem wrong for each character, well except for Michelangelo, he was pretty awesome. Megan Fox wouldn't have been my choice for April O'Neill, and was another reason I wasn't interested in seeing movie. Megan wasn't great, but her performance was better than I expected...so kudos to her for not ruining this movie for me...lol.

Although the characters were creepy to look at, everything else about the movie was pretty great, especially the action scenes, although sometimes corny, still very entertaining. The scene that did it for me was the car chase down the mountain...that was amazing. I also enjoyed the humor. I found myself laughing a lot, which added to the movie's entertainment value.

I was expecting this movie to flop, and found myself surprised when it didn't. The adults in the theater enjoyed it, and I think you and your family will too...B+

Movies in Review: "The Hundred-Foot Journey"

I'm sure this movie isn't on most of your radars, but I was really looking forward to seeing this one. The trailer reminded me of the film "The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel", which I absolutely adored (btw they are coming out with a sequel...Yay!) Then let's add that this film was about food...Hot Damn! I love food...lol! Helen Mirren starring in the film only sealed the deal for me :)

The movie was just as I expected, and I left with a smile on my face. This is such a cute movie with a decent story, entertaining characters and delicious food. There is nothing extraordinary about the movie, but I enjoyed the subtle humor, beautifully shot scenes, and the light-weight feel of the story. It had a very sweet taste (pun intended). Not to mention it stars Manish Dayal, whose name I did not know before this movie, and left me swooning. See below...HOTT

Manish was enough to keep this story on fire for me. You guys know how I like eye candy...Yaaassssss! Ok I'm finished...lol.

If you love food, and stories that are quaint and performed well, I think you will find some fun in this one. It was visually entertaining, humorous, and put me in a good mood. Gotta love a movie that can do that...B-

Movies in Review: "Into the Storm"

Uuuggghhhh! So pissed I paid money to see this movie, even when I knew it was going to be awful. This movie made it on my do not see list after watching the trailer, but because I had time to waste and it was showing at a workable time, I paid for a ticket...smh. Now I'm not really mad I went to see it, I'm more pissed because I paid to see it...Uuuggghhh! I am still SMH now, just as I did when I walked out after watching it.

This review is going to be short, because the movie had nothing to it. It was a movie about a storm with characters sprinkled in it to give some "story", but there really wasn't any. This movie was seriously about a storm that came from nowhere, in a town that probably doesn't exist on a map. Ummmmm...sooooo...what was the reason behind the storm...weird. The storyline was so weak, I'm having a hard time saying that their actually was one. To make things worse, the storm scenes were beautifully done and exciting, but everything else about the movie fell flat.

If you are interested in seeing a storm on the big screen, then this movie is for you. If you are interested in a theatrical production about a storm, this one totally missed the mark. The running time for this film is a short 1.5hrs, but that's 1.5hrs wasted and never get back...smh...D-

Movies in Review: "Guardians of the Galaxy"

I was on the fence with this movie. I don't follow comic books, so this story and the characters, to me just looked like a weird bunch. Besides that, as much as I like Chris Pratt, I couldn't really picture him as a comic book hero. But I am a marvel hero movie fan, regardless of what I thought, there was no way I was going to miss it...lol

I am shocked at how much fun this movie was, and how much I enjoyed it. This movie was kinda freakin awesome...lol. Nothing made this movie more fun than the characters and the actors performances. I loved each character, who all brought their own dynamic that made for a very entertaining movie. I usually have a favorite character, but I enjoyed them all. Pratt was so cute and entertaining to watch as Starlord. Saldana as Gamora was so badass. I do wish her make-up was a little more interesting instead of being so green, but whatever, that would probably be my only complaint. Drax, Groot, and Rocket played by Bautista, Diesel, and Cooper, round out the this wonderful band of Guardians.

The action sequences and visual effects were great, but the best part about this movie for me was the humor. This movie had me laughing almost non-stop, especially at the end...lol...Groot! I enjoyed the the humor was subtle and not forced. This is a movie I would definitely add to my collection for repeated viewing. So much entertainment the family will enjoy it...A!

Movies in Review: "Get on Up"

Critics have said great things about this movie, and Chadwick Boseman's performance in the film. I thought I might have been missed something because I watched the theatrical trailer months ago and the movie looked like it would be a hot mess to me. However I decided to give this film a chance because I like Boseman and want him to see him doing well...unfortunately, this wasn't it...smh.

There is no other place for me to start but on hair and make-up. I mean wth was going on with the hair and make-up!? The hair and make-up was so distracting it was hard to really enjoy anything else about the movie. Boseman as an aged Brown looked like his face was plastered and melting. Everyone was wearing lace front looking wigs...awful. What was that opening scene about? I tried my best not to walk out of this movie but when a movie starts out that bad, I'm not expecting much else. It felt like Boseman was doing a comedic impression of James Brown, was I really suppose to take him seriously? Not to mention James Brown was 5'6", and Boseman stands well over 6'0", it just looked odd.

The story was weird, with a directing style that felt a bit all over the place. Was Tika Sumpter really necessary? I didn't understand the performance scene with her and Jill Scott in it. Jill Scott was beautiful, but definitely not one of her best performances. Viola Davis and Octavia Spencer were great, but really didn't have enough screen time to be mentioned...smh. The music was good, but there was only one dance move for each Brown performance...it got boring quick.

I don't understand where the acclaim from critics is coming from. You know a movie is bad when you see people walking out before the movie has ended. I even walked out myself. I'm sorry, but I just couldn't take that make-up and Boseman's crazy imitation of James Brown. This movie may make you Get on Up, but likely so you can walk on out...D

Movies in Review: "Lucy"

Lucy has been on my anticipated top ten summer movie list. The theatrical trailer for this movie was so intriguing, and you know Johansson always puts it down in an action flick. I was expecting great things from this film. Unfortunately my excitement going into the theater didn't match my feelings coming out :(

Ummmmm...hmmmmm...u ever not know how to define your feelings about something? I'm having this problem with my review for this film. Ummmmm...I can't say I didn't like it because I thought Johansson was excellent and the action was good, the story was ok...but uh...Wth was the point again...I missed it. The movie was great, but then suddenly went in a direction that was just weird (to put it plainly). Why was Lucy the only one of the drug mules who was put in prison? What was the deal with the scenes where Lucy was almost at 100%, when she kept going back and forth in time...weird. Then the white room, turning into matter thing...weird. And did anyone notice the police sergeant had a flip phone? I didn't feel fulfilled by this movie, and left the theater with a screw face of sorts. There are people who disagree with how I view this movie, so just head my review as a warning.

This movie wasn't horrible and has great entertainment value. But ummmmm...wth really? I didn't like where the story went in the end. I wanted this movie to be so much better than what it was...Ugh!...C+

Movies in Review: "Hercules"

When I first watched the trailer for this movie, I said, you can't be serious. I thought it was a joke. It looked like a movie that was trying to be serious but missed the mark, and I was thinking it had a lot to do with The Rock being cast as Hercules. I love Dwayne Johnson, and I think this was the only reason I went to see this movie...smh.

You know what? The movie wasn't all that bad...to my surprise. I still had a hard time taking Dwayne Johnson seriously, but his co-stars made him easier to bear. Actually the characters that were cast around him made the movie more entertaining. I was on the fence about how I enjoyed the movie, but I couldn't deny that I found the character Lolaus hilarious with his storytelling. Hercules's other mercenaries were all so different and very entertaining. The fight scenes were done well. Hercules teetered on being corny, but didn't cross the line.

I was thinking I wouldn't enjoy this movie at all, but I did. There won't be any Oscar nods coming from this film, but you won't find yourself bored with its content. Just try not to take it too seriously...B-

Movies in Review: "The Purge: Anarchy"

Excuse me for my late posts, but I haven't been able to make it into the theaters for a few weeks. I was gone, but hopefully not forgotten ;). I was able to catch up this week though...sooooo...how about that Purge...lol. I was surprised I liked the first installment, and was definitely thinking this second one would be an epic fail. Well the joke was on me because I enjoyed the second a little more than the first...ha!

What made this movie better was that the story wasn't centered around one family. We some interesting characters who were purging or just trying to survive the night. I enjoyed the story for this movie better, but the acting left a little to be desired. Most of the female characters were too dramatic. They were honestly annoying the hell out of me so bad, I was hoping someone would take them out...lol. The movie had great entertainment value by adding the two crews sent out to round-up people for the rich to purge on. The guy with the machine gun in the truck was ill! I loved the crew with the skateboards and motorcycles, especially when they were finally able to speak. My favorite part about this movie was they brought back Dwayne from the first movie with a story-line that made sense...kudos.

The acting ability was low but the entertainment value made up for it. It's not a perfect movie, but it's good enough to check it out...B-

Movies in Review: "Dawn of the Planet of the Apes"

Am I the only one who felt like this second installment of The Planet of the Apes would be disappointing? I don't know what it was about it that I didn't feel. I loved the theatrical poster for the film, but every time I watched the trailer, I got less interested. It didn't look like the story was headed in a strong direction. But I enjoyed the first one so much, there was still no way I would miss this one. I went into the theater with lower expectations than most of you I'm sure. Ummmmmm...Can you say All Hail Ceasar!!!

Da Da Da Damn Ceasar! This is one bad ape...holy smokes. The way Ceasar holds the fort down is too much for words. I'd like to applaud the special effects. Did you see those apes!? How human, but still ape-like did they look? The special effects were amazing! I apologize for how excited I am about this movie, but there was so much about it that was done well. The direction, story, nothing was left by the waste side, making for an almost perfect film. Koba was ill! This ape had no heart...loved it. The humans in the movie were secondary features, because the apes ruled every scene. Who didn't feel something when Koba tried to challenge Ceasar and Ceasar stood up...Omg...#ICant.

I could go on and on...but point blank...period...this is a summer Must See. I enjoyed the first more, but it doesn't even compare to this one...A+

Movies in Review: "Snowpiercer"

I love it when movies that were never on my radar are suggested to me. I never saw a trailer, theatrical poster, nothing about this movie. It came out about 2 weeks ago, and people have told me that I need to see it. I watched the trailer on-line, and I seriously wasn't impressed. I would have passed on this movie, but more than 1 person said I needed to see it, so I took the chance on it. I walked out of the theater happy I did.

What can I say about this movie. It is suspenseful, action packed, and totally enthralling. I was about to lose my mind with this story. This is a Korean science fiction film, just to give you an idea of type of action and story you are in for. This movie was directed and filmed wonderfully. I was on the edge of my seat for most of it. And can you say Tilda Swinton...will blow your mind. Her character was my favorite, although there are a number of great performances and characters throughout. Chris Evans was cool...not outstanding, but good enough to keep the story going, so I will give him kudos for that. What I enjoyed most were the scenes with shock value. You know how a movie throws you off by popping up with something way unexpected? This is one of those films. I wasn't totally pleased with the ending, but that was only 10min of the story that was unsatisfactory, so I'm not gonna harp on it.

I was surprised at how much I enjoyed this film. If you are looking for an entertaining movie that will give you more than a simple plot with cute action sequences, then this is the movie for you. This movie is full of emotion, and jaw-dropping scenes. If it's in your area, I recommend you see it...A-
