Movie's in Review: "HereAfter"

In true Clint Eastwood style, this film is really mellow. So it seems to run slow. But I can't say that I was bored. I was caught up in each character, and their stories. I think the film was very well done. Although you might be surprised with all the subtitles, because they are speaking french throughout a good portion of the film. It was a surprise to me, but it didn't take away from my enjoyment of the film. The first 20 min are thrilling, but it does mellow out after that. But this film will have you thinking. There's not much I can say about the film that the trailer hasn't revealed. And anything I say would just be too much. Not everyone will be able to appreciate it for what it is, but I would be lying if I said that it wasn't good. You may feel better catching it at a matinee. But don't go see it tired. The film runs 2+ hours, and I felt it was a bit long. But I still enjoyed it and give it a B+...

Movies in Review: "Jackass 3D"

Had no intentions of checking this film at all (although I must admit I found the trailer to be hilarious), but the whole jackass thing really wasn't me. But this movie had a $50million weekend opener...Damn! These days that is not an easy thing to do. So I had to see what everyone ran to the movie theatres and paid their money to see.

OMG!!!!! This movie is definitely not for the light of heart. I almost puked in the theatre 3 Times!!!...seriously. And for some reason while watching I grew a huge crush for Steve-O, and his over sized veneers...SMH...but back to the review. This movie was disgustingly entertaining...lol. U will definitely get your money's worth. And you have to check it in 3D. This film was actually filmed in 3D... for real, and the stunts look extra crazy when they are jumping off the screen. This movie gets an A from me, for delivering on what it set out to deliver. SO go check it in 3D, and don't forget your barf bag! Lol

...side note...I would like to give a special thanks to my friends who have made my obsession with movies a little easier on the pockets by providing me with discount tickets. Thank Guys...you know who u are! ;)

Movies in Review: "RED"

Ho Hum...is all I can really say. It started off extra slow, with the first 20 min following the day and events of Bruce Willis's character's retired life...boring. And can I just say that Bruce Willis is starting to become a very monotone actor. There was really no inflection in is acting, and he was the main character...eh. There were a number of scenes with shooting, just for the sake of having bullets and guns in the film, it seems just so they could call it an action film, but true action it was lacking. And the story was very weak. Something about a reporter, and Guatemala...SMH...dumb. Morgan Freeman looked like he needed a wheel chair...SMH. The only great thing about this film was John Malkovich. He was excellent. His expressions were the best and on point even when the camera was not focused on him...Love him. Soooooo...all in all RED really stands for Really Extremely Dull...C- rating (and that's being generous because I really enjoyed Malkovich).

Movies in Review: "Buried"

OK soooooo I'm super late with this one. Kinda flew under my radar because it was not widely released. But I went to check it out because I'm a fan of Ryan Reynolds, and would most likely go see anything he's in. I had an idea of what the film was about from the trailer, but was SMH when the starting credits rolled, and Ryan Reynolds name was the only acting credit listed for the film. The movie is 1hr 40 min long, I was like OMG the whole movie is actually going to be in a box!

Honestly the 1st 20-30 min, I was starting to get a little annoyed because I wanted to see more visually. The way it was filmed, I was starting to feel claustrophobic, and wanted out. Ryan did a great job of having you feel exactly what his character was feeling. The phone calls kept it gripping, and chilling. The calls helped you to visualize the people on the other end, and give you a story that was happening outside the box. Still one of my favorite actors, Ryan Reynolds held it down. The film gets more thrilling as it continues, and the ending will leave your jaw dropping. I give this movie a B+ rating only because the 1st 20 min dragged a bit for me. If your not able to catch it in the theatres before it exits, definitely catch it on rental!

Movies in Review: "Secretariat"

Wow....clapping! All I can say is that I enjoyed everything about this film. Based on a true story about a triple crown winning horse owner, I thought Disney did an amazing job telling the story. I was inspired by Penny Twitty and was behind her throughout the whole film. I just couldn't understand why they had the actress who played her wear ultraviolet blue contacts. I swear I kept thinking she was going to turn into a vampire...but moving on...Disney's camera angels were the best. The shots of the horses made you feel like you could understand them and they were communicating with you. It was easy to fall in love with Big Red. My heart was pumping each time he stepped on the track, and it felt like you were right there with him. It was beautifully directed and filmed. I am still smiling, and I plan to purchase it when it comes out on video. Just an all around great story...A+

Movies in Review: "It's Kind of a Funny Story"

A light-hearted film about depression (if thats even possible). I found comfort in some of the comical relief provided in this film, because at times I found myself attaching myself to thoses feelings of depression that I sometimes have. I think it gracefully touched on this hard topic. Depression is real, and we all know it...to see it presented on film the way that it was, made it easy to handle. Could everyone find something they can relate to in this film...I'd have to say yes. Keir Gilchrist brought life to his character by not making it look forced, but real as a teen confused and anxious about all of the things he's having to deal with in his life. The other co-stars were great. And this time Zach wasn't trying so hard to be funny, and there was some seriousness to his character that worked really well. The film was cool. But keep in mind thats it's a drama-comedy, so the content is not all fun and games. I give it a B...

Movies in Review: "Life as we Know it"

I was sooooo looking forward to seeing this film. I thought they really had a very entertaining trailor, and I must admit I was hooked on seeing it after viewing the trailor once. But I must admit in the back of my mind, I thought it wasn't going to be as great as the trailor. So when I bought my ticket to view the film, my fingers were crossed, hoping I could give this movie a good review. Eh...can't say I can give it a good one, maybe just a decent one. I am officially over Katherine Heigl! I was a total fan, and actually enjoyed her first couple of films. Her quirkiness, I found to be humorous. But it is plain to see that this women has absolutely no acting range. She has either been type cast, and hasn't figured it out yet, or she's just unable to play any other character...SMH. On top of the fact that the movie was very predictable, it easily became a yawner. What kept it alive for me were the other co-stars, like the neighbors. They added a very nice touch of much needed humor. And the film actually did a very good job a getting the best infant to play Sophie. She/they were perfect. Josh Duhamel I didn't mind at all. I think he's a decent actor, so how could he mess up this simple role. The movie was a C- at best. Best to be seen as a rental, on a rainy day just because nothing else is on...

Movies in Review: "The Social Network"

From that first 10 min dialogue sequence between Mark and his girlfriend, I was hooked. The dialogue between the two made me love and hate (but mostly love) Mark all at the same time. Jesse Einberg did his thing playing the complex Mark Zuckerberg. The actress in the 1st sequence was excellent and held her own perfectly...Loved her. OMG...the rest of the film is like a genius rollercoaster, with all of the actors, writing, and directing, creating a very interesting and entertaining film. The story behind "facebook" will have you glued to your seats for the whole 2+ hours. If you use facebook...and I'm sure you do...you are going to enjoy the story behind it. Go see it...I left the theatre SMH at the genius and assholery that is behind the whole thing. Definite A rating from me...

Movies in Review: "Let Me In"

Ok so I heard this film was a remake of a swedish film that has gotten pretty rave reviews. I heard that this english version followed the original scene for scene. Soooo I can't help but to wonder why I was so unimpressed with it. Eh I thought it was a little dull. The following of a romance that developes between a outcast boy and a vampire...hmmmm...I guess I should have known better. I loved the actress (young girl from "Kick Ass"). But I guess I feel they didn't give enough background into how she became a vampire, and is she like the only one on earth? Why is it that the young boy's mother seemed to be non-existent when it came to raising her 12yr old son. She was always in a drunken sleep everytime they showed her. And how easy was it for her son to "runaway". Didn't understand the whole... you have to say I can come in before I come in thing...that scene where the vampire walked in without the young boy saying come in, was just weird, and wasn't really explained. Eh...video might suit you fine if you are just into vampires and have to see it. Otherwise, your not missing a thing. D Rating for me :/

Movies in Review: "Waiting for Superman"

Documentaries are my least favorite genres of films, only because I attend movies to escape from the realities of the real world, not to have it right up in my face...just depressing. So true to form, I left the theatre after seeing this film pissed, and depressed...but mostly pissed. I think this was the objective of the film, because it opened my eyes to things I was not even aware of in the school system. A system I think should be gutted and forced to start over. Lets start the gutting with the teachers union. I could not believe that it is impossible to fire a teacher, tenure is what they call it. I can understand tenure, but I thought it was something u earned after proven years of service. Well not in the public school system. You only have to be in your position for two yrs, and are pretty much set for life as far as a job is concerned. Even if you are a poor teacher, and are not worth the credentials given to you...SMH. You should see the failing number of schools this film will open your eyes to. Failing schools only mean failing children. So why are we ok with a system that cares more about the incompetent staff that are causing these schools to fail, instead of the children who attend them. Just doesn't make any sense...And if you think the recession we are facing, and the crash of wall street is bad...OMG we are in for even bigger trouble if things don't change soon. We are not going to have the skilled people to keep this country going if our youth are not being educated properly...and from the looks of things...they are not. Get ready for Generation "Dumb Ass" because thats whats up next...SMH.

This film was great, and is a must see, buy, bootleg...whatever. Everyone should see it, especially if you have children. This film has made me want to hold off on that endeavor. A++
