Movies in Review: "Hall Pass"

Very slow weekend for new films, but Hall pass was cool. The directors of "Something About Mary", and "Dumb & Dumber", try to give the same dose of outrageous humor. I think some of the stunts were hard to come up with, since everything has already been done. Especially when you have films like "Jackass", but nonetheless, they were still able to come up with a couple of scenes that will have you cracking up. For a comedy, it was a little dull at some points, but overall the movie was ok. You won't mind this film as a rental, or matinee if you have nothing else to do. Rating C+...

Movies in Review: "Big Momma's Like Father, Like Son"

Ok it was a slow weekend for movies, which is the only reason why I stepped into the theatre to check this 3rd installment of Big Momma's. All I can say is an absolute waste of time. It cost 32 million to make this movie, and it has yet to gross that in ticket sales in its 2nd week running now...that says alot.

Poor Brandon T. Jackson...smh. First "Lottery Ticket" and now this. You have indefinitely cast yourself as a D-list actor. Its so sad to see your career fall so quickly...smh...oh well such is life.

If you're into bad films, then go check this. This movie was awful from the word GO! I'm not gonna recommend this film. Even if you found a free copy on the sidewalk, it would be a waste of energy to pick it up...lol. No Rating...Just not worth it!

Movies in Review: "I Am Number Four"

This movie follows in line with alot of the other teen movies of its kind like the "Twilight" saga, except I thought it was better. Timothy Olyphant was a great pleasing factor in it for me. Ok not just because he is great to look at, but because I personally I think he's great in any movie I've seen him in. If it weren't for him and the Mogadorians, it would have been a pretty dull flick (in my opinion). The special effects, and the action was great, but it was a little limited, only because in this first film #4 is just starting to develop and learn his powers. Once he gets going though, its pretty awesome. Then you add #6...and WOW. Really looking forward to the next installment of this film, and seeing just how powerful these kids can get. Teenagers are gonna love it. Parents will at least be entertained...B+!

Movies in Review: "Unknown"

First of all let me just say...not what I expected...smh. This movie kind of put you in the mind of  "The Borne Identity", but instead of svelte Matt Damon, you have old Liam Neeson. I mean don't get me wrong, Liam does his thing, and I am a total fan. What caused this this movie to fail was the whole story line. The ending did not come together in a remarkable way, just predictable. From the trailer you think that your going get the same feeling you got when you watched "Taken"...but no... it doesn't deliver.  This movie had so much potential, but in the end I was just plain bored...C+

Movies in Review: "Just Go With It"

I was happy to see that this was the highest grossing film this weekend, because I have to agree that it was the best flick I checked. It was absolutely hilarious, and I am still cracking up over some of those scene...LOL. The reviews for this film were not great. One paper I read gave it zero stars. Well after seeing it, I can't say exactly what they were basing that on. Everyone knows when you go to see a Sandler film, what you can expect to get, and those things won't include great writing or acting. But out of all his films this was the only one I didn't find just plain dumb. Thank goodness Aniston was in it, because she and Sandler worked perfectly together, that nothing seemed forced. And she was giving 1/2 her age Brooklyn Decker a run for her money...Aniston is fly at 41!

It was a nice surprise to see Nicole Kidman, who is actually pretty comical (I would have never thought). My favorite scene comes when they are walking slow motion in the parking lot. You'll see what I'm talking about, and tell me if you don't die laughing at what comes next...LMAO!!!! If you are looking for a great laugh, definitely go see this!...A-

Movies in Review: "The Eagle"

This film MIGHT have been ok had the casting director not made the mistake of casting Channing Tatum as the lead in this film. I had no idea, and was actually fooled by this man's acting ability until I saw this film...he's horrible. From the first scene, it was just wrong. They have a close up shot on Tatum, and he's suppose to be acting like he's looking out into the woods, but it just looks like he's trying not to look directly into the camera...smh. And this film was set back in Ancient Rome, but everyone's dialect made me feel like they were in the 21st century and worked out of the 78th precinct. It was just annoying hearing Tatum's so called accent go in and out...horrible. The only good thing about this film was Jamie Bell. He should have been cast as the lead because he has way better acting chops. I feel bad that he had to play 2nd fiddle to Tatum, who doesn't deserve lead in any other film. Tatum this was just not your role. I think you thought this would have boosted your career, but your weak performance only set you back...smh...D-

Movies in Review: "Gnomeo & Juliet"

I usually love animations, but this one just didn't do anything for me. It was actually kind of dull. So needless to say it was definitely more for the kids. Although the kids in the audience really didn't seem like they were enjoying themselves...smh. The animation was as stiff as the gnomes themselves. I think I left 20 min before it actually ended, and that wasn't early enough. I wouldn't rush out to catch this one. But if a bootleg comes your way, by all means grab it...D

Movies in Review: "Cedar Rapids"

Never saw a trailer for this film, caught an ad for it while riding the subway. Honestly once I saw Ed Helms (The Hangover) was in it, I was pretty much sold. He delivered almost the same character as he played in The Hangover. I can't say right now if that's a good or bad thing. Well it was a good thing for this movies because it worked perfectly. This film is a comedy, but it wasn't LOL funny, but it was funny. The best comedy relief came from John C Reilly, who was absolutely hilarious! The cast worked well together, and created a very entertaining film. You'd probably prefer seeing it matinee, but well worth seeing...B+

Movies in Review: "Barney's Version"

This movie came out last week, and was getting such great reviews, I had to make my way in to seeing it. Needless to say...I enjoyed it. It was cool story, and I was definitely wrapped in it. Love Paul Giamatti. He has always been one of my favorite actors. The whole cast was great. The film was strange and deep all at the same time. I can't really describe it, but there is just something about this film that will draw you in. So catch it on video, if its not playing at a theatre near you...A-

Movies in Review: "Sanctum"

Lets be honest, the movies coming out so far in 2011 have not been all that great. This weekend was no different with "The Roommate" and "Sanctum" as the opening films for this past weekend...SMH. Needless to say, I had no interest in either one of these films from what I reviewed in the trailers, but for the sake of this blog I went to see Sanctum, because The Roommate wasn't even an option.

An underwater excursion...sounds thrilling ~sarcasm~. Well to be very honest, this movie was quite thrilling, entertaining, and waaaaayyy better than I expected it to be. I get freaked out in water. So when I imagine myself deep sea diving...I get the shakes, because anything could happen...like the loss of air supply...HELLO! Well to see 5 people trapped in a cave that is flooding because of a storm, having to find their way out had me on the edge of my seat. I was into it, and I say its at least worth checking on video, if not a matinee. Can't see where the 3D effect would have served a purpose, so you can save your money there. Overall a really decent movie...B-
