Movies in Review: "Burlesque"

I'm guessing that this movie was filmed before Aguilera turned into an oompa loompa, because she looked absolutley amazing! As did Cher. Although I know Cher is knifed all up, I don't care, she looks gorgeous for her age, and thats the best knife job I have seen...you go girl! Ok now that I'm done giving props for beauty...back to the review.

This movie has more than enough of singing and dancing in it. So if thats not your cup of tea, I'd advise you not see this film. But I would say that you would definitley be missing out. The dance performances were remarkable, costumes were great...and the singing...SMH. Chrisitina Aguilera...need I say more! That girl can SANG!!! And it didn't stop there, because Cher did her thing with the vocals too. It was a pleasure seeing Cher back on the big screen, and I loved her character. She and Stanely Tucci (her best friend & stage manager) made for the cutest pair. Every song they did was done in it's entirety, and they still were able to incorporate a decent story line...Brava. It really captured burlesque and made it fun. I had my doubts about this movie, but all have been removed. I give it a B-!

Movies in Review: "Love & Other Drugs"

What's not to like about a movie that has Jake Gyllenhaal running around all types of naked...Yum! Besides beautiful shots of Gyllenhaal, the movie was not short on sex. He and Hathaway were getting it in in more than enough scenes, to the point where all the sex was making me exhausted...SMH. So outside of the sex, was the movie any good? I would have to say that it was. The story was decent, and touched on a serious topic that might hit home for some people. Hathaway is not one of my favorite actresses, and was almost the reason I was gonna pass on this movie. But I must admit that I quite enjoyed her performance in this film. The persona she brought to her character, I believed and enjoyed.

This movie made me laugh, with Gyllenhaal's brother creating the biggest comic relief. I loved him, and he was great. This movie might also tear at your heart and make you cry. But as with most movies like this, the ending was no surprise. So if you just want something that will make you laugh, cry, and most importantly, entertained, then this movie isn't bad. I give it a B!

Movies in Review: "The Next 3 Days"

Well unfortunately for Russell Crowe, his movie premiered the same weekend as HP7 Part 1...smh...bad move. If you had a chance to check box office sales, this movie didn't even register on anyone's radar this weekend, with opening weekend sales at a lousy 6.7 million. Well the question is was this a great film that was just overlooked? I'd have to say not. I mean it was decent. But a good portion of this 2 hour flick ran a bit dull, with Crowes character coming up with a plan to free is wife for most of the movie. I did however learn that you can find out how to do almost anything illegal thanks to you tube...ridiculous.

The movie didn't actually pick up until he put hi plan into action. By then you were already 1 hour 20 min into the film. The action part of the movie should have started sooner because the movie was actually pretty great once they got things going. Eh I'd say if you are a Russell Crowe fan this movie is good for a matinee or rental...that's about it. Rating C+

Movies in Review: "Unstoppable"

Well this movie was not short of suspense and thrills. Tony Scott had you all engrossed in this quick moving train and the doom that it could cause. You were wondering what was going to get caught in its path. The chase scenes to stop the train were great, and had you cheering on the heroism of Denzel and Chris Pine's characters. Rosario added a nice touch. There's not much to say...it's a train on a track...that's the focus of the movie. And Scott did all that he could to make it more than that with the intense camera angels and shots. The film was good...Definitely better than Pelham 123. I give it a B!

Movies in Review: "Morning Glory"

Refreshing is how I would have to describe this film. It was just a real feel good movie. I am a total fan of Rachel McAdams, and as always, she delivered perfectly on her character. She was quirky, cute, and fun. It was good to see Harrison Ford back, and he and Diane Keaton were a great pair. The supporting cast was wonderful and brought something to this film. I smiled throughout the entire movie, and was laughing with tears at some of the parts...quite funny. No this movie was nothing new, and the ending was cliche, but that's not to say that it was not good. Now don't get me wrong fellas, this movie is 100% chick flick, but if your girl happens to drag you to see it, there are aspects of the film that you will enjoy. Sooooo (ladies) if you need a smile, I would recommend you go see this film. If your not able to catch it on the big screen, it's still a great rental...B+!

Movies in Review: "Skyline"

What kind of bull crap was this! I'm sorry...but this has to be the worst movie I have ever seen! What were they thinking bringing this to the big screen...SMH. It had potential for about 10 min, then it just got all types of stupid. What was the purpose? Who were the characters? For the life of me I have no idea what Donald Faisons career was, all I know is that he was very wealthy. Eric Balfour's character is his best friend, and you see that he has this photo album he created of the two, but u never see him give Terry (Donald Faison) the album...dumb. Jarrod (Eric Balfour) is accompanied by his whiny girlfriend...Omg...annoying.

Ok, so then the aliens come and there is no escaping them. For some reason the main focus is to get to Terry's boat in the marine. Why???? The Aliens are not scared of water, that's obvious when you see them get chased through a pool, so why is it so important to get to the marine??? The aliens seem to have no weakness, and are unstoppable. But for some reason everyone but Jarrod gets caught up in their trance. Jarrod escaped them 3 times...and his character is an idiot. So there's a bunch of hiding, chasing, and bad acting, as seen from the rambunctious spanish police officer...smh. It seems that the aliens are after human brains...are you serious! And when they capture Jarrod, his brain is the only one who is actually able to take over the body of the alien who eats it...SMH...did I mention that Jarrod was an idiot. Ok so this movie is basically going nowhere, and by the end you just want your money back. To make matters worse, there's suppose to be a part 2. My personal opinion...I'd advise against it because the first one SUCKED! I give this movie an F...and that's being generous...

Movies in Review: "For Colored Girls"

I must admit that Tyler Perry's films were on a downward spiral for me. But I'm glad to say that the man is back with this one. I never read the book, or saw the play, but from my understanding it was written like a poem. And that's not hard to tell from this movie. With the complexity of the play, I thought Perry did a great job of adapting it to a film. The actresses he cast were absolutely amazing. I can't say who my favorite was, but it was between Phylicia, Loretta, and Thandie. Although that is not to take away from any of the other women.

The tragedy in the story will have your jaws drop, as well as the stories of each of the ladies. I think we all could relate or know someone, in each of those characters. It was long as hell, and the poetic dialogue was becoming a bit much for me, but it was still enjoyable. Kudos Perry!...I give you a B+

Movies in Review: "MegaMind"

This movie was all that you would have expected it to be, if you had a chance to see the trailer. It was a really entertaining film, and the kids are gonna love it. Now is it worth the 3D money? I would have to answer that one with a big fat YES. Especially when your watching the film and grown folks are trying to grab the things they think are flying off the screen. That's so much fun. The only problem I had with this film was Jonah Hills voice. It was hard to see his animated character when he spoke because his voice is so distinct. That was a bit annoying, but still will get an A rating from me. So get the Kids and make it a family Night!

Movies in Review: "Due Date"

Whoooo Hooooo!!! I'm ecstatic because this movie was way better than I expected. It was actually really funny. Zach and Downey were the best odd couple that I have seen on screen together in a while. The chemistry worked really well to create a very comical film. Downey is the best, and I'm so glad he's back and strong. I felt like he was playing himself in this movie, but if this is who he really is...I love him! And you guys have seen Zach...pretty much the same from hangover, except better. They take you on a cross country adventure that is worth sitting through every minute. I could have done without Jamie Foxx, but oh well...A- rating...Go See It!

Movies in Review: "127 Hours"

All I have to say is OUCH!!! Had a brief reading of what this film was about. I knew it was going to be the story of the man who cut his arm off...Hmmmmm...ok fair enough. James Franco is playing this character...ok that's good enough for me to go see, especially when they are talking about Oscar nods and all. I agree, after seeing this film, I would have to say that the nods are well deserved. I mean the emotional roller coaster he takes you through with this character, the loneliness, crazy delirium is just all too real.

I must admit though that when he first got stuck, I was getting a little bored with his attempts to get out. But as time passes you can actually feel the things that are going through his head. With the thoughts of your life, wishing you had done things differently, running out of water...and just seeing the situation your in as the place you're going to die...SMH...Crazy. When they finally got to the part where he does the deed, I could not keep my eyes on the screen, and had to cover my ears to keep from hearing the sound of bones and flesh being broken. OMG! To cut your arm off, or to die...which would you do? The directing was good, and Franco was excellent...B+ rating from me. And after seeing this film, you will never walk out the house without letting someone know where you are going....for real.

Movies in Review: "Saw 3D: The Final Chapter"

I would have to say that Saw is lucky they came out on Halloween weekend, and also a weekend where they were practically the only new release, or it probably would not have made 1/2 as much money as it did. But I think they knew this, and therefore planned it this way. My oh my I had such love for this franchise after seeing the first one (which I loved!)...the second one was a bit flat for me...the 3rd was also another great one...4th, 5th, 6th I want my money back...now the 7th. 3D huh?...not even...and there should be some law against movies advertising 3D and having u pay for it, and you sit in a movie and not get what you paid for! I said all that to say that I watched 95% of this film without the glasses on, so what does that tell you.

The opening trap was not even one of his best, and seemed to have no real relevance. As a matter of fact, I think they began to run out of ideas for traps, because most of them in this film were just lackluster, except for the garage trap. The story line with the "fake" survivor, actually wasn't all that bad. It was all the other really ridiculous stuff that the writers felt they had to throw in there to give a cohesive "ending". All I was thinking was...Come on son! Are you serious! How many of these old survivors are you going to keep bringing out the wood work, just so you can keep this story going. I mean seriously, Jigsaw died 3 movies ago! SMFH...All I can say is that I'm glad its over...but something tells me that that's not the case either. It just seemed like they were trying to leave something open for the angry black girl who had to cut off her arm, and the other survivor accomplice left. Well if they do recharge this film, I won't be a part of the viewing audience at all. This movie produced 7 films, and I only thoroughly enjoyed 2 of them. Not a very good record :/...This movie gets a D rating for me, because there was just way too much nonsense...
