Movies in Review: "Concussion"

The new Star Wars movie is only in it's second week in the box office, and is still the hottest ticket in theaters right now. It's unfortunate, because there were some really decent movies released this weekend that failed to get any shine. Concussion being one of them. I was looking forward to this movie mostly because I am a fan of football, and an even bigger fan of Will Smith. The trailer grabbed my interest about a subject I kinda brushed off as a football fan.

I had no idea who Dr. Omalu was until watching this film, or how damaging head contact is in the field football. First let me say Will Smith did his thing as Nigerian forensic pathologist Bennet Omalu. I didn't find his Nigerian accent to feel fraudulent, and he brought such care and power to his role. It felt like Will prepped for this and it paid off. Critics are criticizing the story, but I didn't feel as if I was missing or need anything more. Yes Smith carried the movie, but also had great support from Gugu Mbatha-Raw and Alec Baldwin. Any lover of football will walk out of the theater feeling some type of way towards the men who go onto the field every Sunday for our entertainment.

I could go on and on especially praising Smith's performance and this story, but I think it's best if you see it for yourself. This movie made me laugh and brought out a few other emotions as well. The pace of this film isn't quick, but still packs a powerful punch...A-

Movies in Review: "Joy"

I found the trailer for this movie to be so strange, but intriguing. It's the same way I felt about Silver Linings Playbook, which was an amazing film, and both are directed by the director David O. Russell. Given Russell's previous work, I felt confident that this movie would be better than the trailer had me feeling...and it was.

Russell has the quirkiest way of directing a film. I enjoy what he brings out of his cast and put into their characters. However I honestly had no clue where this movies was headed, and felt a little lost, entertained, but still a little lost at the beginning. Thank goodness for Jennifer Lawrence because she was absolutely perfection as Joy Mangano, the lady who invented the self wring mop (I didn't know this before I watched this movie...lol). She gave me life, and kept the tempo in this film well. Her co-stars were just as great, adding more to the story. This movie had me on an emotional roller coaster, and I loved it.

Please don't be alarmed at the start of this movie if you find yourself lost as to where this story is going. The movie gets on track with some nice build-up, and a fairly decent ending. Any faults with this movie had nothing to do with the cast, just some direction flaws. If you enjoyed Silver Linings Playbook, I think you will also have an appreciation for this one. Although not as outstanding, still very entertaining...B+

Movies in Review: "Star Wars: The Force Awakens"

Ok so I think you're either a Star Wars fanactic, or someone like myself, who could really care less. I have never been able to sit through a Star Wars movie without falling asleep shortly after the movie started...smh. So needless to say I have never watched any of the previous installments, not for lack of trying either. Although movie-goers were all filled with excitement for the release of this film, I wasn't interested in seeing a movie that would have me watching the back of my eyelids...lol. Well I'm surprised to say, this wasn't the case.

First off, let me start by saying this movie was corny as hell. If this falls in line with all the other movies, which I heard it did, you guys like some corny ish...ijs. However, as corny as it was, I did find myself entertained...very entertained. I enjoyed the comedy, and the fun and cute interactions between characters. The movie kept a nice pace which never led to boredom. My favorite characters were definitely Finn and Rey, I enjoyed their storyline and they meshed well together. I only had a problem with that awful wig they stuck to Finn's head. Why did they feel the need to do that? Ugh...

I'm sorry to disappoint all Star Wars haters for actually finding enjoyment in this movie. Believe me I am just as surprised as you are. But I have to speak MY truth, and the truth is I found this movie to be fun and entertaining ~shrugs. It's still corny as hell, but I do have a thing for corny...A-

Movies in Review: "Sisters"

Tina Fey and Amy Poehler in a comedy? Come on son...that's a no-brainer if you're looking for a good laugh. I was really looking forward to what these ladies had in their comedy bag for this film. Everyone was more interested to see Star Wars...not me! The trailer for this film had me sold, I was just hoping it would delivery.

I'm sure I don't need to tell you this movie is funny as hell. There is no denying I laughed A LOT...tears rolling with laughter. Isn't that what you want from a comedy? However I thought the story was just ok. It felt like the story needed a jolt of something less predictable...lol. Amy Poehler's storyline, but wish there was more focus on it. Maya Rudolph is hilarious, and I also wish she was incorporated more into the story.

Everyone cast in the movie was great, held their own, and packed a hell of a comedic punch. Great movie for the girls, good date movie, or if your solo and need a laugh, step into the theater and catch this one. I promise it doesn't disappoint on laughs...B+

Movies in Review: "In the Heart of the Sea"

The movie about the big white whale honestly didn't interest me at all. I probably would have taken a pass on it if Ron Howard's name wasn't attached to it as the director. I love Ron Howard's work, so I decided to change my mind and give this movie a go. I wasn't expecting it to be awful, and if I didn't like it, I still would be able to look into those beautiful baby blues of Chris Hemsworth ~shrugs

Not bad...The thing that made this movie spectacular for me was the way it was filmed. This film was visually appetizing. The action shots on the ship, and water scenes with the whale...wow...it felt like you were right there in the water. Of course please note I did see this film in IMAX 3D, and it made the viewing extra special. The story was ok, nothing really to brag about. It was decent but didn't outshine the visual parts of the film. Although the part of the story when the men were stranded...definitely hard to take.

I went to see this movie late, and it was 2hrs long, however my attention was held throughout the film. If you go see this one, I suggest you see it in the theater. This is a movie that needs to be watched on the big screen, preferably in IMAX. Anything other than that may diminish it's entertainment value...B

Movies in Review: "The Big Short"

I'm really kinda surprised no one was more interested in seeing this movie centered around the financial crisis of 2007...really? I was not only interested in the story, but this movie is packed with powerhouse actors. The trailer for this movie had me more than excited to see it. Unfortunately many of you decided to pass on this one, based on box office tickets sales. I have to say you made a big mistake...

Definitely one of the best movies I've seen this year. If I had a top ten movie list, this one would definitely rank high in that list. I thoroughly enjoyed this movie. Who doesn't get confused when someone is talking to you in confusing "Bank/Financial Terms"? Yeah, well there is a lot of confusion to be had here, but what makes it fun is that the confusing terms broken down in the story in terms that we can understand...brilliant, and humorous. This movie had my jaw dropping and adrenaline going. All I kept thinking about was how this time affected my life, and to see the background story of how this all started...Wow.

Excellent job from the cast, ALL of them. As serious as this situation was for most of us, I liked that they tackled this subject with humor. Although I was still a little pissed. Kidding I'm still pissed at the way the system is set up, but I still enjoyed this movie...lol. The Big Short is getting critical acclaim, and all well deserved. You should kick yourself in the butt if this isn't on your list of movies to see...A!

Movies in Review: "Creed"

When I first saw the trailer for this movie, I honestly raised an eyebrow with interest. I haven't watched a Rocky film since Rocky IV, and from what I heard I didn't miss anything. After 3 failed movies since IV, this is the Rocky franchises 7th installment, and I think they finally got it right *Nods head...Michael B. Jordan as Apollo Creed's son? Yeah I could see that. Now that's a great direction to take this movie. I was just hoping it worked.

Pleasantly surprised and pleased with this one. I enjoyed where they took this story. But what made this movie work so well was Stallone and Jordan's chemistry. It was really entertaining to watch, and I think I should credit that mostly to Jordan. There is a beautiful love story that involved Creed and Bianca, wonderfully played by Tessa Thompson. I honestly enjoyed their love story the most, and would have enjoyed that to be more of the focus with the boxing secondary. But I guess there is still time for that. I think the only complaint I had about this movie was that Jordan was just too damn pretty for this role. It was kinda hard for me to take him seriously as a boxer because the dude never broke a sweat...like hardly ever...lol. He'd work out and not have one scratch on his fresh Jordan's or wrinkle in his sweats...lol. They could have made him look not so fresh and clean ALL the time...smh.

A breathe of life has finally been put back into this franchise...thank goodness. This is a good direction for the film, and I'm looking forward to what else they have in-store...A-

Movies in Review: "The Good Dinosaur"

Omg...how cute was the trailer for this movie when you watched it? Ok...maybe it was just me who smiled with anticipation to see this new Pixar production. Well just me and my kid, who always stopped in his tracks whenever the commercial for this movie would show. He would ask me every week about going to see this movie, and I was ready to put this in the books as another one of our date movies.

The movie was just as cute as I hoped it would be. The animation was absolutely beautiful, the story was cute, and filled with fun and interesting characters. You know a movie is good when it gets your kid emotional...lol. I was in the theater and heard a few parents getting some belly laughs in, so there's entertainment for all. The movie was a bit slower than I expected but was definitely funnier than I had anticipated. The character Spot was my favorite, and I loved his and Arlo's bond, which made for a fun adventure home.

This movie rates high on the cute and humor scale. Beautifully animated to keep the little one's entertained too. I enjoyed it and left the theater with a smile on my face. It's not the best Pixar film, but it's definitely one that you'd wanna take the kids to see...B+

Movies in Review: "The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2"

This was definitely the movie everyone was trying to see this weekend. The final Hunger Games movie...the excitement is just too much to hold in right!?...Kidding...lol. Like everyone else I was looking forward to seeing how this movie was going to end. They have been marketing the finale of this movie for almost a year, building high expectations for me. But perhaps a little too high...

The movie started out where it had left off at the end of Part 1 so it was easy to follow the story from the beginning. The quest to bring down President Snow was now on it's way. I must admit I enjoyed the action sequences, especially the scene with the black oil...wow that sequence was phenomenal. I enjoyed the movie for the most part which centered heavily around Katniss and Peta. However I wish Harrelson's character, who is always great, had more shine, as well as the character Johanna Mason. I thought Johanna would have definitely had a deeper role, and they could have used her to give the movie some kick. Elizabeth Banks has always been my favorite character in this franchise because of her beautiful costumes, but unfortunately even she only makes an appearance in 2 scenes. Even Snow wasn't as present as I hope he would be, only behind a camera, or news broadcast. There are scenes that gripped at my heart, but the ending was a little weak for me and definitely predictable. I enjoyed the message, but I guess I was expecting a little more.

I wasn't disappointed by this finale, but it seemed to climax in the middle and dwindle into little at the end. However it was still fun to watch. It's hard to make a finale that will satisfy everyone, so I'm not gonna fault it for that. It has great entertainment value, and many will find it to be a satisfactory end...B+

Movies in Review: "The Night Before"

As much as I enjoy Seth Rogen in a comedy, I had little interest in seeing The Night Before with it's band of unlikely cast mates. It was hard to take these guys seriously as real friends. Well no, it was hard for me to see how Anthony Mackie fit into this bunch. I think Mackie is a good actor, but this role...ummmmmmm...No. However I needed a some humor in my life, and I had the time, so I went to see it anyway, and found myself pleasantly surprised.

Ok so Anthony Mackie still looked like the odd man out to me, but the trio still worked. I expected to laugh, but the laughter definitely went beyond that. As I sit here writing this review I'm cracking up thinking about some of those scenes...Omg...freaking hilarious. These guys are fools. Rogen was absolutely amazing as you would expect, but Gordon-Levitt and Mackie did their thing too. As fun as the main cast was, my favorite character was Michael Shannon who plays Mr. Green. Shannon is an amazing actor who doesn't get the credit he deserves. When the movie just felt like nonsense, Shannon gave it life. You will see what I'm talking about when you see it...lol.

Absolutely hilarious is all I have to say. On the verge of being straight nonsense, but came out shining like a star. There are comedies that you can watch over and over, I would have to add this one to the list...A-

Movies in Review: "Secret in their Eyes"

Not too many people had their eyes set to watch this film with it being released the same weekend as the final movie for The Hunger Games, but I did. The cast alone had me sold on this movie. I honestly can't say I was too intrigued by the trailer, but the performances from the cast definitely made the movie seem worth while as a fan of thriller films.

So this is a remake, which I never watch the original film, but I'm definitely interested in seeing the original now. This movie started out at a decent pace as we get introduced to all of the characters, and story. I enjoyed most of the beginning, but I have to admit, I expected a little more. I enjoyed the performances from the cast, especially Roberts and Ejiofor, but the story felt like it had a few holes and left me with some unanswered questions. However the movie did thrill and I was a bit surprised by the ending, but I needed just a little more and I would have totally been won over. With that being said though, I still left the theater pleased, mostly because my emotions were drawn in.

I hear this remake is no comparison to the original. But if you're like me and never saw the original, this one will still do the job. Although the story didn't have enough beef, it still satisfies with great performances, and interesting ending...B+

Movies in Review: "Our Brand is Crisis"

I love a good political movie, and this movie sparked all of my interests. Sandra Bullock is always a hit of miss for me in films, but I am still a fan of her work. I liked how she looked in the trailer and felt this would be a role that was a hit. The cast looked great, so I was expecting the movie to be just as good.

I liked it, although it didn't really pack the punch that I hoped it would. Some scenes that captured my interest in the trailer kinda fell flat in the movie. Thornton was great, but I wish there were more scenes with him and Bullock because their on-screen chemistry made for some interesting dialogue. I enjoyed Bullock, although it took a minute for her character to get rolling. The best scene in the movie was the bus scene. That scene packed the energy that I wish the rest of the movie had.

The movie was cool, and the performances were good, but the movie lacked power and energy. I wasn't bored, but I have to admit, I was expecting a bit more. It wasn't as fun or funny as the trailer...shrugs...B-

Movie in Review: "Burnt"

The trailer for this movie didn't really look that exciting. To be quite honest I didn't really get the story from the trailer either. However I am kinda partial to movies about food, says my inner fat girl...smh. I also have a thing for Bradley Cooper, and his gorgeous baby blues. I wasn't expecting much from this one, but I was ok with going along for the ride...

The movie wasn't great, but also not a complete waste of time...sorta. The story was a little all over the place and erratic. I think if it had more focus, it might have been a better film. There were too many characters but no real background or character development. I kinda think the film would have been better if some of the characters had been trimmed down. Adam Jones played by Bradley Cooper had way too much going on, and most of it made little sense. I enjoyed the food scenes and the sequences with Sienna Miller, and Daniel Bruhl, but the movie didn't feel as if it had much purpose, except for the one powerful scene with the character Michel. It was one of the only scenes that sparked any emotion from me.

The only real thing this movie did was make me hungry. My eyes enjoyed the sight of Bradley Cooper, but other than that...eh. It wasn't a horrible movie. It's just not one you'd race to the movie theater to see. I might recommend it for a matinee, or even an evening in with RedBox...C

Movies in Review: "Steve Jobs"

There must be some overwhelming fascination with Steve Jobs with this man sparking 2 biographical films within 3yrs of each. I would usually ask if this was necessary, but in this case it definitely was, since the first film was just mediocre for such a brilliant and complex man. Although I thought Ashton Kutcher definitely had an impressive resemblance to Jobs, it was Fassbender who captured his intricacies to perfection. I had no interest in seeing a repeat of Steve Jobs story, however I was very interested in seeing Fassbender.

Michael Fassbender is the man. Although he looks nothing like Jobs, it still felt like I was watching Steve Jobs. I didn't know the man personally, but Fassbender's performance exuded everything I had heard or read about him. He was a brilliant and intricate businessman, and we have a chance to feel all this in a story that is centered around 3 different product launches in his career. Within the launches we get to see the development of his relationship with his daughter, which was nice subplot that made Jobs seem human. Kate Winslet also gives a phenomenal performance as Jobs confidante. Their chemistry was great. It was like watching 2 great friends, with Winslet rounding out Fassbender. There was so much information packed into this film. Not one word spoken or a scene empty or a waste.

If you are fascinated with Steve Jobs, this is one biographical film that I think you will enjoy. It felt like this movie to the most important parts of his life and put it beautifully in a 2 hr theatrical feature...A

Movies in Review: "Bridge of Spies"

I'll admit, this trailer wasn't the most interesting cold war thriller trailers I've seen. Actually I thought the trailer was kind of dull. The only thing that did pique my interest in this film was Tom Hanks, who I have an undercover crush on. I love me some Hanks, and always enjoy any movie he headlines. Unfortunately, I think many people felt the same way I did about the trailer because this movie ranked #3 for this weekend's ticket sales, even falling behind The Martian, Which has been out for 3 weeks now...smh. Although the trailer didn't appease me, I was confident I was in for more than the trailer was letting on.

Thank goodness I went bet on Tome Hanks because I got a movie I thoroughly enjoyed. However I don't think many of you will find the appreciation I found for it. The movie isn't fast paced at all, kind of moves at a nice steady medium pace. For those of you who like big theatrics, and over the top action, you also won't find that here. The thrills in this movie are presented in the most subtle way. Just enough to keep you interested throughout its 2 hour running time. The best part about this movie was the script and the performances. Tom Hanks was superb as lawyer James B. Donovan. It is hard not to be captivated by this man's performances. I also enjoyed the character Rudolf Abel who had one of the most profound line's in the movie "Would it help?" The movie has a way of appearing to lose focus, due to a few subplots that all work cohesive for the story.

This one has everything that matters going for it. I smiled when I left the theater having spent my money on a theatrical work of art. I love it when movies get back to what matters, story, writing, directing, performances, all on point. If you appreciate a GOOD movie without all the bells and whistles, then this is one I think you will enjoy...A!

Movies in Review: "Pan"

My kid has me watching Jake and the Neverland Pirates allllllllll the time. So I got a little excited when I watched the trailer and Captain Hook was one of the characters being featured in this film. Like seriously...I got super excited...lol. I also have a thing for Rooney Mara, who looked super awesome in the trailer. I knew I had to make this one a mother and son date. I was just hoping my 2yr old would find it as entertaining as his mother hoped it would be.

Unfortunately for this movie it didn't do well at all in the box office...smh. Critics totally crapped on this movie. I read some of the complaints, but cannot find myself in agreement. I enjoyed this movie. The movie starred as very cute young actor, who was fun to watch. The story had nice upbeat pace that held my little one's attention throughout. I loved the punkish feel to the film, and although this was catching most of the flack, I didn't find the use of CGI to take away from the film. I enjoyed the scenes in the village the most, because of the wonderful use of color.

I laughed, my kid cried...lol, but fun was had by all. I found this movie to be super cute and a fun for a family outing. I got everything I expected from it and more. If it helps in your decision, my kid walked out of the theater saying he wanted to see it again...lol...B+

Movies in Review: "99 Homes"

The movie trailer for this kinda hit close to home. I know too many people who lost their homes to foreclosure. I'm a fan of Andrew Garfield, and Michael Shannon is such a riveting actor, I had this one on my personal must-see list. The trailer tore at my heart-strings, and had my attention. I expected the movie to do the same.

Ugh...this one was just too damn hard to watch. I was on the verge of tears, and anger throughout most of the movie. You know how something is portrayed on film there is always some truth to it in life. I'm not sure this was the film's aim, but I left the theater hating bankers, brokers, and the judicial system...smh. Let me just say, you will too. Besides my own personal feelings, the movie was great. It has a strong plot and great performances by both of their leads. I'm sorry, but am I the only one who thinks Michael Shannon is the creepiest, heartless man on-screen. He seriously scares me...lol.

This one is a winner, but be prepared to have your emotions in an uproar. I'm still pissed. Although just a story, I'm having a hard time separating it from the truth of how things are happening in the housing industry. The 80yr old man though...smh...Ugh. Don't you love it when a movie has your mind twisted...I do...A!

Movies in Review: "The Martian"

The cast alone is enough to peak anyone's interest in this movie. This movie is cast with some dynamic talent, and after watching the trailer, my anticipation only grew. After a few months of lack-luster movie releases, we are finally on the upswing again. Good movies make like better (who agrees?)...lol. Ridley Scott held it down in the director's chair, and although his latest releases haven't been much to brag about, I knew he had a winner on his hands with this one.

You know how you expect a movie to be good, but walk out of the theater with the movie with it still being better than those high expectations. Yes this is one of those movies. My only complaint is that the movie really jumped right into action, and there really wasn't much build-up or introduction, but my dislike is minor. Everything else about this movie I loved. Matt Damon shines in this role. I loved when Damon gets comfortable in a role. It felt like I was watching the real person, instead of an actor playing a character. The humor in this movie is solid and adds a light edge to a tense situation. The writing, directing, and performances were all on point. Matt Damon was the focal point, but every character made an impact in the movie. For those wondering if it's like Gravity, it's not. There is way more to see in this film. I enjoyed the way Matt Damon had to find a way to survive until rescued. Watching his skills and training being pushed to the limit had me in awe. This movie had me in awe of the NASA program, even though I know this film is science-fiction, there is still some truth in everything. I am amazed by intellect that is featured in this film.

This is definitely one of my favorite movies this year. Someone told me they wished this movie had more action. Whaaaaa??? It's Space, what type of action sequences are you expecting? This movie is more than visually entertaining. The movie is a bit long, but I can't recall one dull moment. I don't say this much, but this is a Must see...A!

Movies in Review: "The Intern"

Ok so I absolutely fell in love with this trailer. Cute movies always hit my soft spot, and how cute was the trailer for this film. Although Hathaway isn't one of my favorite actresses, I really can't hate on her because any movie she stars in, I walk out enjoying ~shrugs. After a very long vacation, I hoped this movie would give me a good laugh.

How cute was this movie! I really wish you could see my face when I describe films like this. As you read my review envision a lot of gushing, and silly "Omg" girl emotions...lol. The chemistry between Hathaway and DeNiro worked to perfection. I loved DeNiro in this role, and wished I had him as my Intern/Best Friend...lol. His character had this light, airy, and relaxed feel. Hathaway was adorable, and their relationship felt real, which I enjoyed. The comedy got help from their fun and interesting co-stars, who were all great additions to the cast.

I'm on the fence to call this a chick-flick. But because there is actually more testosterone in the film, I have to say the men won't feel uncomfortable going to see this alone, although this movie is definitely better as a date movie. I left the theater smiling, but I think that had a lot to go with my wacky female hormones getting the best of me...lol...B

Movies in Review: "Sicario"

Oh how I love me some Benicio Del Toro and Josh Brolin. I gets down with Emily Blunt too. So I was sold on this movie from cast alone, the trailer was only confirmation that I needed to see this movie. Critics are raving about it, and this was the only movie in weeks I've been looking forward to seeing.

With a running time of 2+ hours, the movie kinda dragged for me a bit, but just slightly. The plot, acting, and directing were on point though. This movie had gasping. I was like OMG, I never wanna cross the Mexican boarder...EVER! It is hard for me to explain the feeling this movie gave me, all I have to say is you have to see it for yourself. Benicio Del Toro...smh...this man is everything. This isn't your regular crime thriller, this one is filled with substance, and thrills that will take you by surprise.

The movie moves a bit slow in the beginning in some spots, but gets better as the film progresses. I am still a little messed up by this movie...lol. I enjoyed it, but left the theater totally disturbed by it...A-

Movies in Review: "Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials"

So anyone who has read my review of the first movie knows that I thought it was just ok. I remember leaving the theater with little excitement about what I watched. However when I watched the trailer for the second installment, The Scorch Trials, I was looking forward to giving this franchise a second chance. My expectations were a bit like the first movie, but even the trailer for this second filmed out-shined the first one...lol.

I loved this installment far better than the first. This film is getting a lot of flack for plot and character development, and I get the critics point, but the excitement in this movie allowed me to overlook this as a problem. The pace of this movie was faster and packed with more adrenaline pushing actions scenes. Something that the first film was lacking. However, admittedly, if it wasn't for these action scenes the film would have been a flop, because the plot was a bit weak. This installment focuses more on the character Thomas, who I really enjoyed. His co-stars kinda faded in the background in this film, where as in the first movie, everyone had a story and stood out well.

If you watched the first movie and enjoyed it, I definitely think you will find this one to be a step up. There was an adrenaline rush through this film that kept the entertainment value on a high. I know I'm a week late for this review, due to vacation, but if you were wondering if this is worth seeing, I would have to say yes...B+

Movies in Review: "The Perfect Guy"

This was the movie to see this weekend. People have been talking about this movie for months since the theatrical trailer was released. I admit the trailer is quite intriguing, but something was telling me this movie wasn't gonna be everything we all hoped it would be. However I was hoping to be proven wrong. So I went into the theater with my fingers-crossed...

Hmmmmm...People may not like what I have to say, but if you think about what I'm about to write, I'm sure you will find yourself in agreement. This movie started out fine, introducing characters, and building up the story, and that was great. But as soon as the crazy turned on, the story went awry. What the hell happened? Seriously? Ealy played the hell out of Duncan, and I applaud his performance. Unfortunately the writing did nothing to give his character the strength that it needed. Where the hell did this Crazy come from? And why was it triggered like that. None of this was answered in the story. We know absolutely nothing about Duncan. The story kept bringing up random stuff the would have given the story some ground, but never went anywhere...ie Duncan's name change, his adoption...Ummmmm...ok. Then there was Leah's stupid girlfriends, and the super random, overly helpful detective. All of the drama was forced, especially that scene with Duncan and David at the bar. That performance was so cliche, as well as the result of their encounter. Please tell me you didn't find it all so predictable, especially the ending.

I seriously wanted to like this movie as much as everyone else, and I did to an extent. Ealy held it down, but everything else happening around him had me sucking my teeth a bit. It was nice to have 2 beautiful men share the screen together, getting half-naked and things, but I still can't overlook the fact that this movie was not a hit. It was entertaining, but I could have watched this on HBO of BET for that matter...C+

Movies in Review: "Sleeping With Other People"

Oh you know how I love a romantic comedy! Definitely one of my favorite film genres. So you know I was looking forward to this one! I adore Jason Sudeikis in any comedy, but when I watched him in this trailer, I fell in love. I had already received a recommendation and thumbs up for this movie before I bought my ticket, so my expectations going in were pretty high.

I wish there was an emoji to express my feeling for this movie. This movie had me leaving the theater will all those mushy girly feelings. There was nothing but stars and hearts in my eyes, a smile on my face and warm feeling all over. I need this type of relationship in my life. Although in reality that is impossible, I still enjoyed what I saw on-screen. I enjoyed this movie because it was cute and funny...cute and funny always gets me. I adored the characters Lainey and Jake. Some of their escapades had me rolling...So cute. The best humor came from the husband and wife duo Xander and Noami. This couple is the prime example of my Relationship Goals. These 2 should have their own movie...lol.

I more than loved this movie. It came right on time to put that much needed smile on my face. This is definitely a chick-flick, with enough testosterone to still keep the men happy. Make it a date-night more, and everyone will walk away happy...A-!

Movies in Review: "A Walk in the Woods"

This honestly has to be my least favorite time of the year to review movies...smh...seriously. Around this time I go through weeks of either reviewing movies I never really wanted to see (because they're bad) or seeing movies I hope are decent, only to leave the theater disappointed. Well this weekend was no different. Nothing was going to get me into the theater to see the reboot of Transporter. Statham was the only reason I followed that franchise anyway, so now I definitely won't bother. Instead I gave this movie a go...see trailer. It doesn't look exciting, I'll admit, but it does look entertaining...or so I thought.

Ummmmm...yeah...not as entertaining as I had hoped. Story seemed fit for a charming film, but everything about the characters was so wrong. Robert Redford for instance was a bore fest. His acting was like watching paint dry, so dull. Then you add Nick Nolte, whose voice was like listening to someone scrape their nails across a chalkboard..Omg. Nolte looked awful and was at times hard to understand. However he was the entertainment in the movie. If it wasn't for him, I probably would have fallen asleep. He and Redford did not match well at all. So what was supposed to be a nice adventure was nothing more than a light walk in the woods. There were a few punches of excitement, but nothing that will make you wanna sit through 90min of this movie...eh...D+

Movies in Review: "Z for Zachariah"

Many of you likely haven't heard of this flick, neither had I. Besides wide release films, I do like to see what's out in the limited/independent release section. In my research I came across this trailer. A post apocalyptic thriller with 3 outstanding actors cast in it. Movie is based on book of the same name. I know the trailer doesn't seem extraordinary, but with this cast, I was confident I would enjoy it.

If you are looking for visual excitement, action, and endless dialogue that leads to nowhere, this is not the movie for you. This movie is simplicity at it's best. The story being told with beautiful camera shots, and subtle expressions and movements from the actors. Thrills are given in the calmest manner, but still give you a rush of intrigue. I loved how they played down Margot Robbie's stunning beauty, so that the we could stay focused on the story and her acting. She still looked stunning, but unlike her other roles, her sex appeal and looks were not the focus. Ejiofor and Pine were on point (as I expected). The story did not play out as I expected, and left me wanting to read the book. The movie was good, but it felt like I missed some details, or too much was left for the audience to decipher on their own.

This is one of the those movies you have to carefully watch, missing the slightest detail would be a mistake. A simple, well directed, performed, and filmed movie. I could have used a little more detail with somethings, but then again, I guess I could just read the book...B+

Movies in Review: "American Ultra"

I am a Jesse Eisenberg fan, to the extent where I will go see anything he's starring in, including this nonsense. I have yet to see anything from Eisenberg that I didn't enjoy, so although this trailer had "Hell No" written all over it, I went to see it anyway. The story looked absolutely ridiculous, but I was sure I would find myself entertained. Well I was wrong...only about the entertained part...

This movie was definitely nonsense for anyone not high or coked up on something. The movie didn't start bad, but it did get progressively worse as the story went on. There was just way too much nonsense. Too many characters that didn't add any substance to the story. They had John Leguizamo acting like an idiot. I get he was supposed to add humor, but I didn't really find myself laughing...eh. Kristen Stewart isn't one of my favorite actresses, but I had no complaints about her in this movie. She and Eisenberg were kind cute together, and their story worked. It was everything else outside of them that was a mess. The assassin's trying to kill Mike Howell...stupid. Topher Grace was getting on my last nerve...ugh.

Who would make a movie like this and release it on the big screen. This movie felt like a straight to DVD movie. The type of movie you'd watch at home with your homeboys, drinking with the munchies...ya know. I wouldn't waste my money seeing this in the theater, there are better movies out...D

Movies in Review: "Hitman: Agent 47"

Ugh...I didn't want to see this movie...smh. If it wasn't for a free movie ticket I had in my possession, I don't think I would have had much to post about from this weekend...lol. I love action movies, but this had horrible written all over it. Did anyone else think this movie would be any good? I was so bored with this movie, even writing this review has me yawning...

Dumb...I guess I have to continue. Yeah I get the film is based on a video game, but the movie was just like a video game. Instead of thrilling action, the movie was filled with theatrical performed action scenes, which were unreal. If someone is shooting at you point blank with an automatic weapon, there is no way you are standing there with your handgun dodging bullets...come on son...Smh. The movie was way too mechanical and stiff. I did enjoy Zachary Quinto's character and the female who played Agent 90. If there was a better story written around these 2 characters with a splash of Agent 47, this movie probably wouldn't have been as bad as what it was.

This is an action film that failed to impress with its dull action sequences and weak story. If I were you, I'd just go play the video game...ijs...D+

Movies in Review: "Grandma"

I enjoy getting a little extra time to spend watching more independent/limited release type films. In my research to find something to see, I came across the trailer for Grandma. I had actually found 3 movies I wanted to see, but this one intrigued me the most. It was Tomlin who really caught my attention and made my choice easy. I had a great feeling about this movie from this trailer, and I was in the mood to see something good.

Movie wasn't as great as I hoped it would be, and I'm not saying it was bad either. The story is very cute, and Tomlin was absolutely amazing in this role. She was everything I hoped she would be. I left the theater wishing I had a Grandma like her...lol. This movie had a refreshing feel about it, and a story that is centered around mothers and daughters, and relationships...fun. I enjoyed the story, but didn't really understand why the layout was setup in chapters. Usually this doesn't bother me, but in this movie it kinda seemed unnecessary. I laughed and smiled through most of the film, but still left the theater feeling like something was left unfinished.

I can't say I disliked this movie, I did enjoy it, but it was definitely missing something. I can't really say what that something is, but it was definitely something. Besides this, this movie is refreshing with great humor, making it a decent movie. It caters to the women. I don't think a man would be interested in seeing this on his own, not to say the men won't enjoy it, but ijs...B-

Movies in Review: "Straight Outta Compton"

So it seems everyone was excited to see this movie when the trailer hit theaters. I think I must have been the only person who wasn't. Honestly I thought the film was gonna be nonsense. I wasn't a fan of hip-hop in the 80's, I was definitely a RnB head. I'm not ashamed to admit I knew nothing about NWA except the few times I'd see them on MTV. I remember always thinking, why are these grown men walking around with Jheri Curls?...and why are they so damn angry? That is all that I thought about the group. So of course I couldn't really see why a movie about them was necessary...~shrugs

Kudos to the man F. Gary Gray for directing another movie hit. To my surprise Straight Outta Compton was #1 at the box office. I was definitely expecting this movie to flop. I honestly went into the theater ready to be bored to death, but an hour in, not one bit of disinterest. My eyes were glued to the screen as nostalgia took over. I admit I didn't know much about the group, but they and their music weren't unknown to me. The story behind the music was kinda phenomenal to watch. I thought this film would be dull, but I was more than entertained. The actors were chosen perfectly for each character. O'Shea Jr. really did his pops justice. It's felt like I was watching Cube himself. It was great that the actors resembled, and at least sounded like the characters they were playing. Who else was shook by the actor portraying Suge Knight? Dre worked with a number of artists, and some make appearances in the film as well, which made for a great story. It was nice to see how talented and smart these guys, looked at as thugs, really were. I had no idea. Although hard to watch, it was interesting to see them struggle with Policing. I think F. Gary Gray did a great job of reminding us how in over 20yrs, not much has changed.

Now can we talk about the music...Wooooh! I forgot how much I enjoyed Dr. Dre's beats, as I sit here listening to NWA now...I was bopping my head all through this movie. I was worried that 2.5 hours of my life was going to be wasted, but when the credits rolled, I sat in my seat until the lights came up. It seems I didn't want it to end...A-

Movies in Review: "The Gift"

First off, I want to shout out Joel Edgerton for his first movie as writer and director. Not a bad job at all sir. I enjoy Edgerton as an actor, but when his name came across the screen as the writer and director, this put his talents on a whole new level for me. I was intrigued by the trailer for this movie, and I felt like I had some idea of what the story was about, but after seeing the film, I had it all wrong.

This was a very nice thriller. Scenes were in a way to build intrigue and suspense, having most of the audience on the edge of their seats and screaming in fear...yes I screamed...lol. The acting was great. I thought it took a minute for the story to get going real good, but everything builds up perfectly to the climax at the end. "Gordo" is the creepiest guy I have ever seen on-screen. You will love the story because it is hard to figure out, and most will find themselves surprised.

This story will creep you out, and mess you up. It wasn't perfect, somewhat slow, but it definitely packs a hell of a punch...B-

Movies in Review: "Ricki and the Flash"

I do love me some Meryl Streep. In my opinion she can do no wrong. Her acting abilities is some of the best in the game, and she's definitely one of my faves. I was more than looking forward to this movie. I adored the trailer, and knew Meryl Streep would not disappoint.

Well I got one thing right, Meryl Streep didn't disappoint, but the movie did. Streep deserves all the praise as Ricki. She played the hell out of a struggling musician, and distant Mother. She wasn't the problem, nor were any of the other actors. The problem was that there was just too much damn music, and not enough story. It felt like I was at a concert I had no desire to attend. Don't get me wrong, the music was great, but I came to see a movie, not a concert...smh. We only got about 35min of a story, which were the best parts of the movie. Streep's real life daughter played her daughter in the film and she was my favorite character. Her emotions were so raw and real. I enjoyed this mother/daughter team. I wish they went more in-depth with the family issues, instead of the music.

This movie definitely had the potential to be better, if the focus wasn't so centered around the music. The cast outside of the band deserved more shine in the story. There was 35min of excellence, and a mini concert filled the rest of the running time...smh...C+

Movies in Review: "Mission: Impossible-Rogue Nation"

Unlike most Americans these days, I still enjoy watching Cruise in films. Tom Cruise doesn't get the play he use to get in Hollywood, but all that aside, the man always comes through on a Mission Impossible movie. This is one role you can never deny his dominance. The excitement that filled my body when I watched the trailer for this movie...Whew! I couldn't take it, and I couldn't wait to see this movie!

Wow...this movie really packed a punch. I'm use to Mission Impossible movies being filled with action, but I was on the edge of my seat throughout most of this movie. This installment was a pure adrenaline rush. It had its humorous antics, which always keeps the movie fun, but this installment had the best female co-star I have ever seen in a while. The character "Iisa Faust" stole every scene and totally out-shined Cruise. Don't get me wrong, Cruise was still pure awesomeness, but Iisa was on another level...you'll see. The nemesis Lane was also great, because he was cold and ruthless, it was hard to tell what he would do. The action sequences were off the chain as always, although a few a little to unbelievable, but still a joy to watch.

I could go on and on about this movie, but all you need to know is that you need to see it. If you enjoy spy action movies, Mission Impossible is one of the best. This adrenaline rushed installment is definitely one of my favorites...A-

Movies in Review: "Vacation"

Ok so I never really watched any of the National Lampoon's Vacation movies. I may have watched a few scenes here and there from some of the movies, but I definitely never sat and watched any of the movies from beginning to end. I know this franchise has a huge following, and thought I may have been a little lost with this new installment. I don't think I cared much. The trailer looked hilarious, and I needed a laugh.

I laughed...admittedly a lot. It didn't seem as if it was necessary to see the older movies because this one seemed to be the same movie, now starring the adult kids ~shrugs. I thought Helms and Applegate were cute and funny together, although Helms didn't seem as naturally funny as he does in other movies. Their kids were honestly my favorite characters. They made me laugh the most. Their older son James Griswold makes the best facial expressions I have ever seen. His expressions teeter on being a bit too much, but they were fun for me. Their youngest son is just freakin hilarious...lol.

Although I laughed throughout, the story was lacking. There was something missing, making the plot feel mechanical. If you want a good laugh, there is definitely one to be had here. If you are looking for anything more than that, you might find yourself slightly disappointed...C+

Movies in Review: "Southpaw"

There is something about Jake Gyllenhaal that completely wows me. He knows how to take on a character...doesn't he? I must admit though, when I watched the trailer for Southpaw, I was a little skeptical about him portraying the boxing character Billy Hope and making it believable. My doubts, however, weren't enough to keep me from seeing this movie. As a matter of fact, I've been anticipating this movie since the release of its theatrical trailer. I loved the trailer, and the cast even more. I wasn't expecting a complete fail from Gyllenhaal, just not his best...

Gyllenhaal is still the man. Can he do no wrong? He was Billy Hope and everything that came with this character. He had the lingo down, as a kid who had the streets raise him. He had the moves as a real boxer, and the physique to back it up. His relationship with his family, and wife Maureen (Rachel McAdams) could be felt deeply. It was hard not to feel every emotion, and tragedy this man faced. This movie is packed with powerful emotion. Curtis Jackson did a good job of playing himself...lol...and Forrest Whitaker was the icing on the cake. The back and forth between him and Hope added humor and fun to the film.

There were some slow-moving scenes, and some that could have use better direction, but there is no doubt Antoine Fuqua has another hit on his hands. Those boxing scenes were everything! Reminded you of boxing of old, not this mess we are forced to watch in the rings today...smh. The boxing scenes were exhausting and exciting, exactly how they should be...lol.

This one is a winner because it packs a hell of a punch. The cast was perfect, the boxing scenes were memorable, and the movie is full of emotion. If you love boxing, you will definitely enjoy this...B+

Movies in Review: "Trainwreck"

Trainwreck is the only movie I was looking forward to seeing this weekend. You know how you have one of those weeks where you just need a good laugh? Well this movie came right on time. How many of you cracked up every time this trailer came across your television screen. I knew nothing about Amy Schumer before, but I'm all about Amy Schumer today. Some of you may know Schumer's sketch comedy work on Comedy Central. Some of you, like myself, may just being hearing about her for the first time. Whatever the case may be, she will definitely be on your radar after seeing this movie, which she also had a hand in writing...Kudos!

This movie is funny as hell...seriously. It wasn't comedy that was forced. This movie had such a great story, the humor just happened effortlessly. Schumer had me pissing in my pants. She's an outstanding comedian, but also a decent actress. I loved the chemistry between her and Bill Hader, whose comedic style comes off a bit forced to me. I really enjoyed him in this role. But can we talk about how much I liked Lebron James. Like I hate Lebron James (yes I'm a Lebron Hater...Bite me)...but I loved him in this movie. Just because of this movie, my dislike for him has decreased tremendously...lol. The only part of the movie that was annoying was the plot that involved her pregnant sister, who hardly looked pregnant at all throughout the movie. She and her family were kind of annoying...in my opinion.

If you need a good laugh, this needs to be on your must-see list. This is one of the best comedies I have seen this year. It has a really cute story, and effortless comedic humor. All around enjoyment for me...A-

Movies in Review: "Ant-Man"

Ok sooooooo...how many of you couldn't take this Ant-Man movie seriously when you watched the trailer. I was giving this movie the serious side-eye. Felt like I was setting myself up for the disappointment Green Lantern left me with. I love Paul Rudd as an actor, but a superhero...ummmmm no. Although I had little interest in this movie, regardless of the character's casting, I will always be in the theater to watch a Marvel super-hero film, well any super-hero film for that matter...lol.

I promise, if you go in with low expectations, you will come out of the theater pleasantly surprised (not that low expectations are needed). The movie really wasn't bad at all. Wow...I am so surprised at how much I enjoyed Rudd in this role. Definitely a very nice fit. The direction they took this movie in worked. My only complaint is that there was a little too much dialogue, making the movie feel long, but other than that I was pleasantly entertained. I loved the "heist" aspect of the story, it kept the mood fun and humorous, especially with Michael Pena as Luis. I love me some Michael Pena. That dude nails it every time. I thought they could have went deeper with the Yellow Jacket story-line. That part of the story kinda got the short end of the stick...oh well...

All in all...not a bad movie. Ant-Man isn't my favorite Marvel film, but I did leave with a smile on my face and anticipation for the next installment. I think it is a great movie for the family who are Marvel hero fans. Although the extended dialogue may prove to be a bit dull in some spots. Overall I found myself laughing a lot, interested, and entertained...and that's good enough in my book...B+

Movies in Review: "Minions"

The first time I watched Despicable Me, I knew those yellow, babbling minions deserved a movie of their own. I feel like I've waited all year for the release of this movie, but the day has finally arrived. I have anticipated this animated movie the most this summer. My kid wanted to see it too...thank goodness...lol. I love my movie dates with my little one :)

All was good with the movie, until you realize there is just too much Minion...lol...like really. I was hoping to love this movie, but it was a little too much. I forgot what was happening, but there were some scenes that had my kid cringing...lol. Don't get me wrong. he liked it, but I caught him covering his eyes a few times. I enjoyed it, especially Stuart, and his bearTim, they were hilarious. I wasn't as impressed with Susan Overkill...eh.

The story was cute, but nowhere near as thrilling as the Despicable Me films. The minions seemed to shine better in those films. The pressure of holding down an entire movie alone were too much for these guys. I still think the kids will find it to be great. I mean...who has the heart to hate on a Minion...B+

Movies in Review: "Self/Less"

The only reason I went to see this movie is because I always root for Ryan Reynolds. If it had not starred Reynolds, this movie would have been on the cutting block for me. The trailer was a joke. Was anyone impressed with the nonsense that this movie was trying to market? Although I had my doubts, I was still hoping that the movie would prove to be far better than the theatrical trailer...but it wasn't.

I'm not the biggest fan of Ben Kingsley in films. I find it hard to take him seriously. I was starting to think this movie was a comedy just because Kingsley was cast...smh. Kingsley opens the film and I was less than intrigued by what was taking place. The story seemed a little rushed and there was very little development before Reynolds came into play. The story  just seemed to drift with interruptions of nonsense here and there. What annoyed me most was the actress who played Reynolds wife. She played the same character in Elysium, with a sick child she was caring for...Ugh! She added nothing exciting to the story, and only seemed to slow it down.

I was really hoping to enjoy something from this movie...but I didn't. It was really a joke and something that could have cluttered the shelves of the DVD counter as a straight to DVD released film. It's kind of annoying when movies like this make it into the theater...D-

Movies in Review: "Magic Mike XXL"

Ok so yeah...I thought the first Magic Mike movie was cute. The story wasn't great, but watching Channing move was definitely entertaining, so I wasn't totally disappointed. However... a 2nd film? Ummmmmmm...ok...I wasn't hyped at all about the 2nd movie. When I watched the trailer it didn't intrigue me a bit, and I honestly thought that this 2nd movie would be a flop. But a girlfriend asked me to roll with her, and I was like sure why not. Of course the theater was filled with all women who had all rolled in packs with their girlfriends. Everyone in the theater was hype! I guess they knew something I didn't, because I was sitting calm as could be. But all of that changed within the first 20/30 min....

Still fanning myself as I type. Still feeling warm inside with a huge smile on my face! I'm sorry...but I wasn't ready...I wasn't ready AT ALL. Now come on, we know Channing has moves, but ladies you haven't seen anything yet. This dude pulled out his whole arsenal in this movie and left each of us with pure satisfaction. There isn't any grand writing, or acting, but is that really what you came to this movie to see???? This movie is 100% PURE ENTERTAINMENT! I swear I was ready to throw my money at the movie screen, and I'm not a fan of male entertainers...lol. This movie had me laughing, and every woman in the theater jumping out of their seats. I was clutching my pearls most of the movie...seriously. I wasn't ready...smh. The only thing that brought this movie down was the love story they tried to write in, when all we wanted to see was asses shaking...ijs. My favorite scene was definitely the finale at the convention. All of the dancers pull out their best tricks. I have never seen a tux look so good, or be serenaded so beautifully...OMG! I can't...smh

Girls have a few drinks and get the girls together to make a night of it. Men, just get ready to reap the benefits...yeah it was like that. Now the grade I'm giving this is purely based off entertainment value. When a movie has me clutching my pearls, standing and clapping, and wanting to throw my money at the screen...oh yeah, that's a winner in my book! A-

Movies in Review: "Inside Out"

How cute is the trailer for this movie! Ok maybe I'm a little too excited about this one, but it's fun to think how owe emotions are controlled and stored...right!? Such a cute concept and story. This is one of the first movies I have been excited to see from Pixar in a while. My little one was even excited to see this one, so of course we had to make a date of it.

This movie was everything I expected it to be. The story was as cute and entertaining as it could be, no complaints from me whatsoever. The characters were well-developed, and the story interesting enough for you and the little ones to enjoy. I must admit Sadness was annoying me a little at the beginning, but by the end became my favorite character. All the emotion characters were hilarious. I loved this movie from beginning to end. The running time was perfect, so to keep the younger ones entertained without bringing them to boredom with too much movie. The animation was great, beautiful, and colorful. I especially loved the animated detail of the hair for each emotion.

I'm sorry, but I have no complaints here. This movie was executed to perfection. I enjoyed myself, and so did my little one. This was the first time he left the theater and wanted to take a pic by the movie poster. I took that as a compliment and a thumbs up from him. Definitely take the kids...A+

Movies in Review: "Dope"

Now the trailer for this movie was Dope. So much so, that I must admit I didn't really understand what the story was about, but I knew I had to see it. The trailer looked fresh, and entertaining, something that is missed with young films. Dope has received nothing but positive reviews, so I was expecting to see something I could recommend and brag about...Ummmmmm...

Ok, so maybe I'm a bit too old, and not really the target audience for this film. Or maybe I should have been hopped up on Dope to enjoy it more. I'm not saying the movie was horrible, I'm just saying that I didn't get it. The writing and directing were off. Some of the scenes felt like space filled with dialogue that was just as empty as the space it was in. Did anyone understand the scene between Malcolm and his Senior Interviewer? Can someone tell me what was the purpose of the extended scenes with Chanel Iman. Now Iman is absolutely beautiful, but it was very clear that she wasn't cast for her acting.

I enjoyed the performances from the 3 leads of the movie, especially Malcolm. His performances should be praised for such an off-kilter flick. I do wish his sidekicks, Diggy and Jib would have had more action in the flick, instead of playing in the background to Malcolm. This movie had some powerful scenes, especially the scene with the bully and his boys. However most of the movie was an adventure that made little sense. It ended well, although I wish the rest of the movie made an impact as the ending did.

All in all, not a horrible movie, but one that is more suitable for the youth. The characters are great, but the writing left a little to be desired. I enjoyed the creative idea of the story, but unfortunately this movie failed to be as dope as I hoped it would be...B-

Movies in Review: "Jurassic World"

Ok so was I the only one not uber excited to see this movie. I mean don't get me wrong, I wanted to see it, but I wasn't anticipating it's release and getting my tickets 2wks in advance just to secure my seat. Honestly if it wasn't for Chris Pratt, I might have let this one pass me by. I was a little confused by the trailer though, and clearly didn't pay attention to the title, because I mistakenly thought this was a remake...but it isn't. So for all those as confused as I was, this is not a remake, this is the 4th installment of this story, a continuation...

Everyone I talk to is giving this movie nothing but high praises. I can understand why, because the best part of the movie came at the end. I found myself on a high when I left the theater, but I quickly had to remember that slight boredom came first, ending in a jolt of excitement...ijs. The movie starts out well enough as we get introduced to the new characters, and Jurassic World (which is visually amazing). Jurassic World is stunning. However the writing didn't really match what was being shown visually. Was I the only one who thought the movie was a little dry in the beginning? With the exception of the tech operator Lowery, who brought much needed humor, I was a little bored. However the dinosaurs (again visual) were a nice treat to look at. The movie started to pick up one Pratt's character was introduced to the story, because Bryce Dallas Howard was super dry in this role, Pratt spiced her character up.

As the movie moved along, I don't know about you, but I wasn't as impressed with the new hybrid dinosaur as everyone else seemed to be. I was expecting something like the new Godzilla, so this hybrid was a little underwhelming in my opinion. I also expected him to do more damage. My favorite dinosaurs were of course the raptors, and that water dinosaur (this dinosaur is amazing!). The last 25min is when things really got into swing and things started to happen. I was on the edge of my seat until it ended at that point, with my heart racing.

Although not better than the first, this movie had its moments, and was better than I expected it to be. No one will notice their disappointment with the first hour or so of the movie because it ends with a banger. I'm not praising it as much as everyone else, but I did enjoy it...B+

Movies in Review: "Me and Earl and the Dying Girl"

Ok so I'm thinking many of you haven't heard about this movie, because neither have I. I only came across it because there was only 1 major film being released this weekend, and I wanted to see something outside of the box office hit. So upon my research, I came across this trailer. So what did you think of the trailer? It's definitely my kind of movie. As a matter of fact, after finding this trailer, I found myself more excited to see this than Jurassic World ~Shrugs.

Ok the movie started out a little weird for me, but I think that was my fault. It took me a minute to get in sync with the way the story was being told, but once I found its rhythm, the movie was great. The characters are so captivating and the little quirks in the story only added to its entertainment value, such as the moose and the squirrel. I loved this charming addition to the story. The young actors of the movie aren't well known, but are perfectly cast for their roles, especially the actor playing Earl. This dude is hilarious, and there is something so genuine he brings to this role. Let me not get started on his catch phrase, which never got boring to hear...lol. I could go on and on about each character, because they were all great. This movie definitely isn't lacking in the performance area, or any area for that matter.

The story is touching and one that the youth can relate to, and adults will enjoy. I was intrigued, entertained, and by the time the movie ended, I was an emotional wreck. This isn't like many of the films out today. It is one that is masterfully written, directed, and performed. I'd recommend you urgently put this one on your must see list...A-

Movies in Review: "Spy"

Melissa McCarthy will get me every time. I don't think I care what kind of movie she's in. All I know is if she's in it, I'm going to see it. I'm only saying this because I wasn't too enthused with the trailer with Spy. It kind of just looked silly. Yes I laughed at the trailer, but it still looked silly to me. I think I was more interested to see Entourage than Spy, but I definitely going to see both.

O...M...G...far better than I had expected. Yes it was still silly, but in all the right ways. The comedy was on point. Melissa McCarthy and Rose Byrne had me pissing in my pants with their back and forth. I would have really loved to see the out takes from their scenes, I know they are just as memorable as the scene that made the cut. Can Melissa McCarthy go wrong in a comedy? I don't think so. But you put Byrne by her side and now you've got a work of comedic art. Again, the movie was silly, but also extremely fun to watch. Jason Statham even surprised me with him comedic abilities. He brought sexy and comedy...well done Statham. Nancy, who is Cooper's, played by Melissa McCarthy, co-worker and friend was also a hoot. The jokes were non-stop, and there was no way I could have been more pleased.

This action comedy takes both to an enjoyable level. A comedy hasn't made me laugh this hard in a minute. But it's more than just the laughs, this movie is entertaining and fun to watch. If you need a smile on your face, this movie is guaranteed to do it...A+

Movies in Review: "Entourage"

Although the series ran for 8yrs, I think we were all still sad when the final season came and ended this series :(. Who didn't love this show, and felt a void when there was no weekly fix of the adventures these group of friends faced together. I think our cries were heard, and we were given a movie...Yay! I got chills every time I would see this trailer, and a huge grin would fall across my face. It was like being reconnected with old friends you haven't seen in a while. I had little expectations for this movie, all I knew is that I had to see it...

I walked out of the theater with the biggest grin on my face. I was more than pleased with this movie. he movie felt like and extended version of the TV series, which I enjoyed, but critics disliked. It felt like coming home. Ari was on one, but in the best way. Everyone was in rare form. I couldn't get enough of Ari, and was pleased to see everyone from the series make their return. I wasn't a fan of Ari's new Assistant, played by Kid Cudi. He was far from a Lloyd, whose chemistry is comedic magic with Ari. We do get to see Lloyd, but not enough for my taste. Surprised to say Drama was one of my favorite characters in the movie, because he was usually my least favorite in the series. I loved him for the film. It was funny because Vincent's Entourage outshines him in the movie. Vinnie, in my opinion, got lost in the background, which was fine with me. The other character's storylines were better. I'm not the biggest fan of Billy Bob Thornton, but he didn't bother in this role, and fit it perfectly. However the creepy, and now chubby Sixth Sense kid, was annoying as hell. I know he was supposed to be an ass, but I think I had more trouble with the actor they chose to play this role...meh...

Roles aside, the movie was fun. I think everyone wanted some action in this movie because there are more guest appearances than I can count. Critics also hated this, but I actually enjoyed the guest surprises that came from nowhere. There was so much going on I think some of the stories didn't get the chance to develop like they should. I enjoyed the ride of the movie, but was a little disappointed with the ending, which felt unfinished and rushed. The film could have used a 30 min extension...but maybe I feel this way because I didn't want it to end :(. For all fans of the series, I think you will be pleased with the movie, but will still find yourself leaving the theater without closure...A-

Movies in Review: "Aloha"

So I was less than thrilled about this weekends new releases, San Andreas and Aloha. However I dislike over the top disaster films and have a soft heart for romantic comedies, so Aloha won the toss-up for the film I would waste my time seeing. Yes usually I try to see all movies, but when I have the choice between enjoying a beautiful day and wasting my time in a theater on a movie I know isn't worth my time, a beautiful day will always win. Hence the reason I only chose to watch 1 of these movies. Unfortunately I think I chose the worst of the 2...womp womp.

I wasn't expecting a great film, but I thought it would be cute and somehow tear at my emotions, but it was neither. Rachel McAdams is my go to girl for decent romantic comedies. Although I enjoyed her performance as always, there definitely wasn't enough of her, instead way too much of Emma Stone's character Ng, who I found to be absolutely annoying. I'm a fan of Emma Stone, but she was uber obnoxious in this one...Ugh. Almost every scene she was in ended with me rolling my eyes, and that relationship between her and Bradley Coopers character, truly unbelievable...smh. Nothing about this movie worked. The story wasn't clear, and got lost in translation as we tried to figure out which girl Brian Gilcrest was going to pick, but honestly, did we really care...such a waste of time.

I can't recommend this movie at all. I wish I could have slept in instead of giving this movie 2hrs of my time, but my dedication to this blog had me take one for the team...You're welcome...D-
