Movies in Review: "Sucker Punch"

Yeah this film was as dumb as the trailer made it appear, and even worse. I'll just give you an idea of how bad the film was. I went with my bf who fell asleep, he woke up, and was pissed that the movie was still on...smh. Another example...the film ended with narrated dialogue and people were screaming at the screen "shut up"..."Boooooo"...smh. Also when walking to the bathroom I heard this "that movie made no kind of sense"...Wow...lol.

Well I knew it was gonna be bad, but it seemed that they spent alot of money for nothing. What was the purpose? It was just all types of weird. First off, these women were suppose to be in a mental institution, but then they all escape into their minds into a brothel type situation. And then they escape even further into a video war game type of situation. So it was kind like a fantasy, within a fantasy?....Yeah that worked for "Inception", but failed miserably in this film. Baby Doll was the main girl who could send any man in a trance with her "dance moves"...huh?

Now there is an underlying message but it was hard to understand. They had a bunch of scantily clad 20 yr old women running around in little school girl outfits having to please dirty old men to escape their current situation...wtf! So it looked to me as if they were trying to touch on sexually exploited women? It was just all types of wrong...and had nothing to do with a sucker punch. But the people who are behind this film all deserve one...BAM!!! right across the face...F!!!

Movies in Review: "Win Win"

You are missing a really good film, if you let this one pass you by. I'm sure it has a limited release, but if its in your area, it's well worth checking. Paul Giamatti does not disappoint...love him as an actor. But not just him, the whole entire cast was great. It felt far from acting, just felt real. "Kyle" potrayed by Alex Schaffer kept me so intrigued. His personality as a teenager was something that you won't help but to fall for. It's hard to describe him, but he's great. The film is moving, funny, alot of what you want from a film. I have not given you too much of the plot. You can read that anywhere, but let me tell you, you are missing out if you pass it by...A-!

Movies in Review: "Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Roderick Rules"

If your over the age of 7, you will find this movie to be totally ridiculous...smh. The acting was so bad in this movie it seemed that all the kids cast in the film were on their first job. The story was childish, but I guess I shouldn't complain about that since it is a kids movie. I just can't understand why they brought it to the big screen. It played out more like a made for tv movie, or Disney kids show, except it was over an hour long. As a grown a$$ woman I feel it is a waste of money, but the kids in the audience were cracking up. So I have to give it some credit there. It met the needs of its target audience, just not me...D!

Movies in Review: "The Lincoln Lawyer"

This movie was #4 in its opening weekend with "Limitless" taking the #1 spot from a very poor movie ticket sell weekend. To my surprise, this film was the best movie I saw this weekend and definitely deserved to gross more and place higher than #4. But I'm sure everyone was hesitant given that Matthew McConaughey had the lead role. I had the same hesitation knowing his track record in films. But it had William H. Macy in it, who I love, so I was still all in!

McConaughey definitely redeemed himself in my eyes as lawyer Mickey Haller. He was gangster, and had my respect throughout the film. It was kinda like watching a 2 hr "Law & Order" episode, except it was all focused on the "order" portion. The story was great, as well as the action and direction. You are going to love Mickey's driver. Happy to see Phillipee back on the big screen, and he also redeemed himself in my eyes as a result of seeing this film. I'm telling you, this film is worth seeing. Would I steer you wrong? Go see it! B+

Movies in Review: "Limitless"

As much as I love to swoon over Bradley Cooper, it hurts to say that this movie fell a little short of my expectations. I was expecting so much more, given the exciting trailer that was shown to represent the film. The story just didn't develop, nor end well. It was cool at first, like we all know Morro's fame and success comes from this pill (ok cool). But then other things started to happen with story lines that did not develop well, like what happened to Morro's brother-in-law (what was the point). The strange guy stalking Morro(stupid), the murdered model (I don't even remember if they closed that case). Everyone seems to be chasing Morro like he has the last supply of this super drug. Then the film leaves you hanging, leaving you to wonder if he's still on the pill or back to his self...smh. This film had so much potential, but had waaaaaayyyy too many things going on, and half of it didn't make sense. Eh the film is just ok at best, entertaining yes, just not great...C+

Movies in Review: "Paul"

Ok from the trailer the movie looks like straight comedy with Seth Rogen as the voice of alien Paul. Well the movie does not disappoint. It was a bit slow at the beginning,  with just the 2 english fellas making their way across country in an RV. Thank goodness things picked up once Paul comes into the picture. Seth Rogen's voice would seem a bit over powering, but for some reason worked really well as Paul. You get all the hilarious parts shown in the trailer, and more. It's kinda moronic, but seriously, what are you expecting. It's funny, and entertaining, so it gets my recommendation, and a B-.

Movies in Review: "Battle Los Angeles"

OMG! This film was 2hrs of non stop fighting, and I'm serious when I say that. The aliens are attacking in the opening scene. Then the film tries to lead up to the story before the attack. But it just gets a little confusing at that point because you start to get introduced to all the characters that are gonna be in the film and get a very small glimpse of "their story". You start seeing their characters names and positions on the screen, but by the time that's finished you really don't know who is who because then the fighting starts and never stops! Quite honestly I was exhausted after walking out of the theatre...and I'm serious when I say that. The film lacks in story and dialogue, but totally makes up for in action with explosions, gun battles, fights...so needless to say ladies, this film is totally for the men. This is not to say that you won't like it, but your man will Love it.

One thing that bothered me was Neyo. It was like he was "Neyo" in a marine uniform. You have to see him. He does the same "perfect gentleman" move that you see him do in all his videos and TV appearances. And he must of had something in his contract that said he had to wear those black dark rimmed glasses...smh. If he's really trying to make it as an actor, he needs to get out of playing the same character...better known as "himself"...I'm just sayin...All in all though not great, but not bad...B-

Movies in Review: "Mars Needs Moms"

OMG! This film was awesome!!! Ok but seriously, I thoroughly enjoyed this film, and unlike "Rango", its for the kids. Mothers I'd advise you take your young tikes to see this immediately. There was such great humor, fun, and lessons to be taken from this film. All the characters were super cute. Although it was kind of weird because they used performance capture computer technique, so the characters looked alot like the actors/actresses who were playing them. Milo totally looked like Seth Green, and his mom looked exactly like Joan Cusack...weird because they just looked so real...lol.

There were aliens who didn't speak english, but for some reason it totally felt like you could understand what they were saying...lol. There was so much running, and jumping, that you don't have to worry about your kids getting bored. It was the first animated film that brought a tear to my eye in a while...yes I cried :(...lol. So grab the kids, bring the tissue, and enjoy yourself!...A!

Movies in Review: "I Will Follow"

You may not have heard about this film at all. I came across the poster for it at the gym. It had Omari Hardwick on it, so I was definitely made it a plan to check it...lol. Come to find out it is an independent film written and directed by an African American woman named Ava DuVernay...Awesome. There was a special screening going on for this film, was happy I saw the flyer.

Like most independent films they are simple. But it is the simplicity in them that can make them so dynamic. I admit that when this film first started, I could not understand what the hell was going on. The movie has a real solemn feel throughout. But once the film got rolling it draws you in. I thought Salli Ricahrdson-Whitfiled did an excellent job at holding this film down. There was just something so genuine and real about the character she was playing. The film has Blair Underwood (yum!) and Omari Hardwick (super yum!) grace the screen. Ladies I'm telling you its worth seeing just to eyeball that! ~fanning~ Lol. It was a good story...although it could have used just a pinch more spice...ya know. I am down for giving support for great work, so if this film is in your area go check it...B+!!!

Movies in Review: "The Adjustment Bureau"

This was definitely my favorite movie this weekend, and should have come out first in the box office in my opinion. Ok first off Matt Damon plays this politician. I seriously could see him running for senate. They did such a great job at making it seem like a real campaign. I would vote for Matt...he is to die for ~drooling~. But as soon as I thought that I wanted Matt all to myself, Emily Blunt comes on to the scene, and I just wanted to let her have him. Their chemistry was remarkable. It had you falling in love with the both of them, and all you want is for them to be together. The directing was great. I heard this film put you in the mind of "Inception"...eh maybe. The one thing it does do is it leaves you thinking about the content in the film. You will definitely leave believing, or at least wondering about the content that was presented. Anthony Mackie made a nice addition to the cast. This was the first film that I actually enjoyed seeing him in. Overall a really good film. In my opinion I think you'll love it...A!

Movies in Review: "Rango"

This movie had me all in it at the beginning. It was funny, and Johnny Depp does a great job as always. But all those great feelings kind of die a little over 30 min in, when Rango enters a town. Waaaaaayyyy to many other characters are introduced. The plot gets a little weak, and the movie just ends up being waaaaayyyy longer than necessary. Beans was my favorite character, and the film probably should have focused it more on Rango and Beans, because they were quite entertaining together. Although its animated, I can't say that this film is really for kids, especially little girls. There are some very unattractive characters in this film, that would probably be more suited for little boys. Not bad...just not great, and too long...B-

Movies in Review: "Take Me Home Tonight"

Eh not so bad...but then again, not so good either. It was suppose to be a comedy, but had too many dry spots and not enough humor. I was happy to see Topher Grace on the big screen again, feels like its been forever. And I wasn't mad at his performance. What did annoy me was Anna Farris and her horribly colored lace front wig, and her disfigured pout. She just looks all wrong on screen. So wrong, that they should have just cast someone else for her part. The other annoying thing was Barry. You could tell that he was the guy that was suppose to provide most of the comedy in the film. But he over-acted most of his parts, and the comedic part in it just failed. The plot was predictable, and the costumes were blah for the 80"s, nothing was really nostalgic about it. Not a must see...maybe a might see...lol...C!

Movies in Review: "Beastly"

Ugh...just seemed like a movie done on a really tight budget. There was just nothing enticing about this film at all. The writing was horrible, as well as the directing. It was a teen romance flick gone all wrong. Mary-Kate looked like she was cast just to make a fashion statement...smh. There were a number of things teenagers could have learned from the movie's direction, but it was so horribly written that it could have been easily missed. The only good thing about this film was Neil Patrick Harris, who definitely did not get enough screen time. I hope to see more of him...in better films of course. If you have a teenager there are some things to be learned from this film...I guess. From me it gets a D- rating...NPH saved it from being a flat out F!
