Movies in Review: "X-Men: Days of Future Past"

What! A new X-men movie!? I was too excited when I saw the theatrical poster for this movie. However when I watched the trailer my excitement turned to confusion. There were a number of questions that arose in my head after seeing the trailer. Questions I thought this movie could never answer...hmmmmmm. Although I was looking forward to see another X-Men movie, I went into the theater thinking this one would ruin the franchise. Hot Damn!!! I was wrong! Yay!...lol

Ummmmmm...where do I start with this movie, because it kicked off with a bang from the start. Wholly Cow!!! The opening scene with the Sentinels! I was about to lose my Sh%t...seriously. I watched this movie on the regular screen, but I definitely think the action sequences in this movie are well worth the upgrade for better viewing. I can't with these Sentinels...wow! From the beginning the story moves along at a great pace and answering all my concerns I had when I watched the trailer.

I need to pause for a minute and give a shout out to Hugh Jackman...ladies can I get an AMEN!...ummmmm...yeah. I know some of you men were sitting next to your women feeling ashamed as she stared and drooled at the screen...Ha! I'd also like to give a shout out to Michael Fassbender. I've never seen a hat and a pair of sunglasses look so damn good! (fanning myself...wooooo!) Ok...I'm done...back to the review...

There are some amazing new mutants who had the chance to shine in this movie. My favorites were Blink (who can create portals) and Quicksilver (who can move at superhuman speed). There is a kitchen scene with Quicksilver that will knock your socks off. My mouth stayed open in amazement. That scene was shot so beautifully I couldn't stand it. When the movie reaches its last scene I was too through.

Saying I loved this movie is definitely an understatement. The franchise outdid itself with this one. This one gets a standing ovation from me. I may be giving this movie more credit than you think it deserves, but one thing is for sure, this is one you need to see...A+!

Movies in Review: "Blended"

Oh another Adam Sandler movie, which I would have been more than happy to have missed...lol. It is no secret I am not a Sandler fan, but for some reason I still find myself venturing in to the theater to see his films. My reason for going this time was Drew Barrymore (love her). I figured with Drew it couldn't be as bad as I am thinking. By no means was this movie great, but it was decent enough for a chuckle.

There was nothing spectacular about the story. The story line was super predictable from beginning to end. But Sandler movies aren't known for their story lines, but instead for its comedic nonsense. Sandler surprised me because he wasn't half as annoying as he is in his other movies. I guess because he wasn't the comic focus of the movie, so he didn't overdo it in this one. I was surprised when I found myself thinking "I like him". But I think those feelings for Sandler's character also had a lot to do with Barrymore as his co-star. I enjoyed Drew I think more because it was Drew and it had less to do with the character she was playing, which was a little dull. The characters Nickens, Eddy, and Jen were there for the comedy relief, and did a pretty good job with the slapstick humor we are known to expect from Sandler movies. Some of the antics were a little far-fetched, but there was enough to get a few chuckles here and there.

I can't say I hated this movie. There were a lot of things I found cute about it. It's nothing spectacular, but it was definitely better than I had expected. I don't think it's worth the ticket purchase, but it is a good Redbox find...C+

Movies in Review: "Godzilla"

As much marketing and hype as this movie had behind it, I still fall in line with the people who still had no interest in seeing this movie. I'm sorry, but Godzilla has never done it for me. I have never watched any of the older movies, and never had a bit of interest, and I couldn't understand why everyone was so pressed to see this reboot. Do you know I was this close to skipping this one. But I purchased my ticket, and by the time I left the theater I was like..."Ooooohhhh I get it"...lol

Not everything was great about the movie. It started off at a good pace, with an introduction into the story...I was interested. It took a while before Godzilla even hit the screen, and I got a little confused because I was like what the hell are these other creatures...lol. But I soon got back on track. I definitely enjoyed the graphics, but it was the story that was a little lack-luster. As much as I try to give Elizabeth Olsen a fair chance, her acting style does not do it for me. She started out fine, but as always teetered into over-acting...smh. There is one scene where she is giving too much "Omg Eyes". Just to explain "Omg Eyes" are when characters are looking at something, with no words being spoken you can tell that they are thinking O.M.G! This movie was packed full of Omg Eyes...a little too much for my taste...smh. The best parts of the movie were the creatures. Nothing about the human characters made me care, except for Joe Brody and his wife.

Ok but let me explain my reaction when Godzilla came out of the water and let out his first scream...O.M.G!!! My mouth and eyes shot wide open, and I gripped my seat. Wholly Molly!!! Godzilla was amazing!!!! They did such a great job with him. In all the movies I have seen with big monsters, Godzilla is by far one of the best. I wish he had more screen time, but every scene he was in had me amazed. Did u see him spit that fire! #ICant. I am definitely a fan now. I need more Godzilla in my life...lol.

I watched this movie in RPX, and I think this movie deserves nothing but IMAX & RPX. It is the only way to truly get the full effects of this film, and it's worth it. The men and boys in your family are going to love it, this is their type of movie. Women who can appreciate big monsters, and awesome graphics will enjoy themselves too. The story had me dozing a bit, but the monsters were on point enough for me to still enjoy myself...B+

Movies in Review: "Million Dollar Arm"

When I watched the trailer for this movie I wasn't overly impressed, and my reaction was...cute. I think what pushed me into the theater was because it is based on a true story (which I enjoy), and co-starred Madhur Mittal (Slum Dog Millionaire) and Suraj Sharma (Life of Pi). I enjoyed these young actors performances in their respective movies and was interested to see what they would do with these roles.

True to form, the movie was cute...lol. There was nothing really exciting about the formula of the story, which was also very predictable, but it still pulled me in. I think this had a lot to do with the great characters in the story. My favorites were Amit, who you can't help to smile at and love, and the other Brenda, who has the coolest personality I have ever seen. Hamm is just a naturally charming actor, so his performance in this didn't stand out, but it also didn't take away from the film. By the end of the movie I was feeling so good an inspired that I gave a homeless man change who came up to my window while I was at a stop light (I never give money to panhandlers...smh). This movie put me in such a good mood....lol.

Keep in mind it's a Disney flick, so is a cute watch for the family. If you want to watch something that may change your mood from negative to positive, I would give this one a go. It was a tad bit long, but is still a decent matinee movie if you want to catch it in the theater...B-

Movies in Review: "Neighbors"

I have been looking forward to seeing this movie for months now. Why? It's strange because I'm not a huge fan of Rogen, and I almost hate Efron in any movie he is in, but for some reason the trailer still caught my interest. It felt like this movie was going to be funny. Truth be told, Rogen can come through with good comedy...most times. I was hoping this would be one of those times.

I am happy to say that I did laugh...a lot. But most of my laughing had nothing to do with Efron, although he didn't annoy me in this movie, and Rogen was good enough to have me chuckling. The most interesting characters to me were the one's outside of Rogen and Efron. Dave Franco and Rose Byrne were definitely the stars of this film. The play the background to Rogen and Efron, but really steal the show and make the movie better than what it's suppose to be. I also enjoyed the black actor in the Fraternity, he has a very small role, but packs a strong comedic punch. And don't get me started on the baby they cast for this movie. They couldn't have picked a better kid. She added pure comedy to every scene she was shot it. The story lingered on comedy nonsense, but the story turned out to be entertaining enough.

If you're not expecting too much, you will walk out of the theater enjoying the humor. I had a good laugh, but if you are looking for more than that, this may not be the movie for you. If you're ok with comedic entertainment for the sake of comedic entertainment (whatever that means) then I would recommend this one...B-

Movies in Review: "Mom's Night Out"

I'm sure most of you haven't heard about this movie. It really didn't have much advertising power going for it except for the fact that it was released Mother's Day weekend. I watched the trailer and had very little interest in seeing it. However I had a free movie ticket, so it was easy to use this ticket just so I could get into the theater for free...lol.

I got everything I expected from this movie...nothing. Although all the other mothers in the theater seemed to really enjoy themselves, this movie gave me a headache. It was like all the things mothers go through daily, but amplified by ten. Unfortunately it was a comedy, but I found very little of it to be funny. The story was crazy and may have some mothers screaming Wth! Sarah Drew lead the cast, but failed to lead in the right direction. She was too much of nothing great...Uuughhh. My favorite character was Patricia Heaton played Sandra, and Trace Adkins who played Bones. Unfortunately their stories were limited to a very over saturated cast. There were far too many characters, and the funniest ones had very limited role, ie the tatoo receptionist (loved him).

Overall I wouldn't waste the money trying to catch this in a theater when it should have been a made for TV movie, because that's what it felt like. I'm a mother, and I could relate to the story, but even I found everything to be a little overwhelming for a movie...D :(

Movies in Review: "The Double"

I heard nothing about this movie, not a movie poster, trailer nothing. I came across the title while checking for new movie releases on Fandango. I was a little confused because I had already seen The Double years ago, starring Richard Gere and Topher Grace. However upon further investigation, this was not the spy thriller I had seen, but a black comedy starring Jesse Eisenberg that had the same movie title name...hmmmm... Interesting...I am a building fan of Eisenberg, and so far I have enjoyed most of his roles. However he is the lead in this movie, so I had to see it.

I am a fan of dark comedies, but this one missed me. You ever watch a movie and by credits end you feel dumb as hell. That was me with this one. I didn't get it pretty much at all...lol. It didn't start so bad. I loved the way it was filmed, the costumes, and writing and directing style, but I'm sure there was a moral of the story that I missed. I will give kudos to Eisenberg who had to play dual characters. He made each character so different that it felt like I was watching two different people with the same face. Partway through the film, it started to have a "Fight Club" kind of story film, but only a very small inkling of it. If someone could tell me what I missed, I think I would feel a lot better about myself...lol.

I know this review won't help you much with your decision to see it, and I'm sorry for that. There were things I enjoyed about it. It was definitely interesting, and dull at the same time (I know, totally doesn't make sense), but I review how a movie makes me feel. This one totally left something unfinished...B-

Movies in Review: "The Amazing Spiderman 2"

Not a fan of tireless reboots like Spiderman. I mean really? How many times do I need to see the same story done over and over, with minor changes...eh. Although I complain, the cast changes for this reboot I favored, and although I didn't love the first installment of The Amazing Spiderman, I did like it better than the movie starring Tobey McGuire. Now we have The Amazing Spiderman 2. I can't front, the trailer for this movie looked absolutely AMAZING! Besides X-Men, this is the movie I have been most anticipating. There was no way this movie would disappoint me...right? Well I could only hope so...

The movie started out great with us getting a little more back story on Peter Parker's mother and father. So far so good, as I strapped myself into my seat to be filled with 2hrs of amazement. Unfortunately this feeling didn't last long. The following scenes went from amazing to corny. That had to be one of the corniest car chase scenes I have seen in a movie in a while...Uuughhhh. The sequence wasn't half as amazing as it looked in the trailer...smh. After this the film kind of wanes along. A half hour in and the man to my left was sleep, after and hr the young lady to my right was out, and I was dosing in and out myself. The story slowed down drastically. Although I loved the chemistry between Peter Parker and Gwen, their love story kind of took over a good part of the film.

There were also too many characters/villains. Electro is a great character, but I don't think Jamie Foxx did him any justice. He lacked so much power in his performance, which would seem impossible to do considering the character he was playing...lol. I also think Max/Electro could have used a more in-depth and stronger story line. I think Dane Dehann was a perfect choice for the Harry/Green Goblin. But again, his character/story line was also unable to get the shine it needed. I also wasn't a fan of the Green Goblin costume. It looked horrible.

The problem this movie had, was trying to pack too much into 2hrs and the movie ended up lacking for it. The performances were great, and the special effects were the best I've seen in any other Spiderman movie, but the story was far less amazing than I had expected. In my opinion the movie was great in the first 15min, and the last 30min...B-
