Movies in Review: "Little Fockers"

This Franchise...SMH. I am not a "Fockers" fan. I saw the previous movies...eh and they are all just ok, and this movie follows suit. The one thing this movie has going for it is who would turn down seeing a movie with the name Fockers throughout it.

Eh not really enthused to give a review on this one, because either you love this franchise or you don't, and I'm really not a fan. They pretty much do the same thing. Sorry to see the great Robert Deniro's career going out like a flat tire though...smh...all I have to say...No Rating.

Movies in Review: "True Grit"

Yeah this movie wasn't as gritty as I thought it was going to be. I know it was a remake, but from the trailer I didn't expect it to be as light hearted as it was. It was a little too comical for me. Don't get confused though, it's not straight out comedy. All of the humor is in the dialogue, which there is plenty of. There was more talking in this movie, than it was action, which kind of made the movie drag.

The young actress who played Mattie Ross was one of the best young actresses I have seen hit the screen in a while. She steals every scene she's in, making everyone else her co-stars. She was the best part about the movie really. She had this black horse she called "little blackie". The name is funny, but I sometimes wondered if I should be laughing or take offense...well for the most part, I was laughing.

Not a bad movie, but not a great one either. The movie runs long and slow, so you make your choice from there...B-

Movies in Review: "The Fighter"

Hey I know I'm super late with this one, but it's the holidays...what can I say. Will be back on track after the new year! ;)

This real life story of Mickey (the fighter), and Dickey (his brother), was played out well by Mark Wahlberg, and Christian Bale (who I am not usually a fan of). I have to give props where props are due, because Bale did his thing as strung out Dickey. From the crazy weight loss, to his drugged out antics. They show the real Dickey at the end of the movie, and you are able to actually see how well Bale portrayed him. Wahlberg to me, can do no wrong. I am a total fan of his, although he's been in a couple lousy movies lately, but he came back strong with this one. It was nice to see Amy Adams get gritty. She played one hardball cookie. She was so tough, I honestly don't think that I could take her...lol. But seriously...she was great.

Now when it comes to Mickey & Dickey's family, my friend thought they had picked these women off the street. Seriously their mother and 7 sisters did not look like actresses, and they will have you cracking up with their "straight from Boston" attitudes...I liked them. Almost everything was great about this movie. But when you add children to the mix, you just never know what your going to get. In one scene, Dickey has his 4 yr old son, and his son is singing the Baskin Robbins ice cream and cake song (which only came out last year). I guess they were hoping no one would notice, or didn't realize it, because they didn't bother to edit it out...lol.

All in all though a really good movie...A-

Movies in Review: "Tron:Legacy"

Talk about visually entertaining. This movies is a must see, just for the visual effects alone. Quite honestly, the story was not all that great, but you won't even notice. The costumes were phenomenal, and had me feeling like I was really inside of a game or computer or whatever...awesome. The chase and fight scenes were very well executed...a man and teenage boys dream movie...lol. The only thing that skived me out was that they digitally made Jeff Bridges look 20 yrs younger for his character Clu, but he just looked fake and plastic. Every time I saw him all I kept thinking was that if I light a match to him he would melt...smh.

But all in all a good 2+ hour movie. Again it has all the elements that a man and teenage boys would love. So get the troops together and check. Don't worry...you'll love it too ladies...B+!

Movies in Review: "Black Swan"

It's a psychological thriller, and un-doubtably the most intense film I have seen in a while. Natalie Portman is perfection. Her dance training worked beautifully and I believed her as a ballet dancer. Unlike her co-star Mila Kunis who should have had a double come in for her weak hands. Made her look unbelievable  and awful as a dancer, but other than that she was great. (those hands were giving me problems though)

You find Nina Sayers (Portman) a nearly flawless perfectionist, having a battle with the other side of her persona who is fighting to shine. The film is intense when Nina cannot differentiate whats real and her own psychological warfare. I had a hard time determining what was real myself. Nina's mother, dance company director, and other competing dancers made for even more tense situations for Nina. Wynona Ryder had a small part in the film. Nice to see her back to acting, instead of continuing her life of crime :). If this movie is playing in your area, it is definitely a must see...A+!

Movies in Review: "The Tourist"

Throughout the film there was just something intriguing about it. Angelina was absolutely gorgeous in this film, so it was not hard to get totally en captured in her beauty and heavily feathered eyelashes...lol. Then once Johnny Depp came onto the scene, it was like a match made in heaven, and you wonder why these two have not done a film together sooner. They story had other outside characters in it, like Alexander Pearse, who the hole film was wrapped around but you never see him, the gangster who Pearse stole from, the Agents trying to arrest Pearse (a man no one has an identity for). The movie keeps you interested because the whole time you just want to find out who this mysterious Pearse guy is.

Well there are a few chases, a few close calls, and most importantly the twists start revealing themselves at the end. I liked the twists...the ending was just a little questionable for me. B- rating, film is well worth seeing Jolie and Depp in action together.

Movies in Review: "I Love You Phillip Morris"

Ummmmm....Hmmmmm...yeah having a hard time with this review because I don't want anyone to feel offended, but I have to give my review the only way I know how...truthfully. This was a comedy drama, but I can't say that I laughed all that much. But I'd have to say that it may have been due to some of the discomfort I was feeling with some of the material. And word is that this film was edited drastically. Now I don't want anyone to get me wrong, the movie was actually really good. Jim Carrey played Steven Jay Russell, the true life story of a homosexual man who was a con artist and a renowned prison escapee. His story was crazy! He was able to con his way in and out of jail, hold prominent positions in well known companies, and even fake his own death. This man did everything! And Carrey did his character absolute justice. Omg...then you add Ewan McGregor (Carrey's love interest)...wow. Ewan did such a great job at playing a homosexual man that I don't know if I can ever look at him straight...lol.

Fair warning for my male counterparts (because I couldn't get not one male friend to go see this with me) there is alot of male on male action going on. Alot of kissing...alot of fellatio...ummmmm and one scene where back shots were being given...ummmmm yeah. So females ask your man just how comfortable he would be seeing all of this before you drag him to this movie, and he gets up to get popcorn, and you never see him again...I'm just saying. But the movie was well done so a B+ rating from me ;)

Movie's in Review: "The King's Speech"

I wasn't rushing to the theatres to see this film, because I thought the trailer was interesting, but not interesting enough. Well I'm happy that the movie I wanted to see was sold out, forcing me to view this because I absolutely loved everything about it. A period piece about a king's stammer. I just couldn't see how that would keep me entertained. That goes to show that when simple things are done right, it's absolute perfection.

Colin Firth was excellent as King George IV. Every time he stammered I wanted to slap the words out of him, but I also felt his discomfort and embarrassment. Can someone tell me if the pitch of his voice is actually that whiny? Geoffrey Rush played his speech therapist, and the two made for a very remarkable pair. Oh Lionel...loved him. And we can't forget about Helena Bonham Carter, who was a wonderful queen. With the outstanding cast, writing, you will easily find yourself caught up in this stammering King. I give this film an A. There was nothing that I did not enjoy about this film. Of course if your not into period pieces, then this isn't your film. Enjoy!

Movies in Review: "Warrior's Way"

I was unable to post my reviews last week, so I apologize to those of you who had the misfortune of purchasing a ticket to see this film. An indication of how this film was; I walked out halfway through...SMH...that says alot.

The film was plotted to be an action film. From the trailer I was expecting to see something like Ninja Assassins, but maybe not as gruesome. Well unfortunately you can't call it action when every time the warrior is in battle, he kills his opponents with one swipe of his sword...awful...Where's the action in that! I just didn't get this film really, from the start. Then you put the warrior in a run down town with a non-travelling circus...SMH. Yeah this story just keeps getting worse. And Kate Bosworth's unappetizing acting did not help matters at all. The story was weak, the direction and acting even worse. The only thing this film had going for it was that Jang Dong-jon (the warrior) who was great on the eyes...Yum! They also casted the cutest baby girl ever. She was given plenty of screen time and was perfect. Kate Bosworth should be ashamed at being out shined by an infant...SMH. So I'd have to rate this movie an F...but because of the baby I will bump that up to an F+
