Yes I realize this review is a week late, but I am slowly but surely trying to get myself a schedule where I am able to hit the theaters again. So although this review is late, and many of you may have already spent your hard earned money for a ticket, I still feel the need to weigh in on this one if for nothing more than to get my blogging chops going again...lol. So without further a do ~cracking knuckles~ here's my two cents...
I absolutely love Mark Wahlberg. I have enjoyed almost every film he has been involved in (give or take a few), so needless to say, I was really looking forward to seeing this one. The fact that the cast also included Russell Crowe and Catherine Zeta-Jones, only made the pot sweeter. I found the theatrical trailer also to be somewhat intriguing. So I walked into the theatre expecting to leave satisfied with my purchase. Unfortunately that wasn't the case...
The film was mediocre and lack-luster. The story line of political scandal has been done over and over, but is has been written better in other films. This movie lacked any real surprises or intrigue. The scandal in the story was weak, and Russell Crowe and Zeta-Jones, although great in their performance, still could not make the movie worth seeing. Please let me know if anyone found Crowe's spray on tan and hairpiece to be a bit harsh...smh. Mark Wahlberg plays his usual cop/hero character. And as much as I love Wahlberg, the monotony of this character wore on me in this film.
Don't expect much from this film. As a matter of fact if you do decide to see this one, you will likely leave the theatre sucking your teeth thoroughly unsatisfied...you have been warned. Believe me there are better movies out there like this one that are worth seeing like The Ides of March. Wait for this one to be stocked at a Red Box near you. You will thank yourself later...D
