Movies in Review: "Moneyball"

This had to be one of the best movies I have seen so far this year. There was not one thing that I disliked about it. Admittedly there was nothing over the top about it, but how many times have you ever left the movie theatre, and felt like you truly got your monies worth? Not many films evoke this feeling from me, but this is one that did. It's really hard to say what I liked about it, because the answer would be everything.

Brad Pitt...smh...love him. I swear I was looking at Billy Beane, the GM of the Oakland Athletics. It was like Pitt wasn't even playing a character, he just seemed like the man himself. Pitt and Jonah were great together. Even further, the cast as a whole was perfect. They have some great one liners that will have you cracking up. This movie made baseball as a sport more interesting to me...wow! This is a great view for all so I would advise you go see it now...A+!

Movies in Review: "Killer Elite"

With a cast like this, you know you are going to see some kick ass moves. This is the only reason I go to see any Statham movie. I always like to see what he's going to do next, then you add Owen, and Deniro...Nice! We all know a Statham film is going to play out similarly to any of his other movies. Statham has no acting range, and I'm not really mad at that because he has action on lock! So this can be the only reason to even want to see this movie.

The story was based off actual events, but was a bit confusing. You ever see a movie that is overload with too many people and names. It seemed that everyone was setting up everyone. I had no clue by the middle of the film, who was who, and which side they were on. This is a film that is more suited for home viewing so that if you get lost or miss something you can just rewind your way back. The events happening were a bit all over the place, but the action was right on point. Deniro still has it, and I loved him in this film. He was my favorite to watch, and every move he made just had me falling in love. As a whole this film is just ok. But lets be honest, when you have Statham, you pretty much know what your going to get...B-

Movies in Review: "Abduction"

If you actually thought this movie looked interesting from the trailer, I'm inclined to say that you may have been smoking at the time...smh. I thought the trailer was lousy, and that this was going to be a bad look for Director John Singleton, who has not directed a film since "Four Brothers" in 2005. Its been a while for him in the directors chair, and unfortunately we can't call this a comeback at all...smh.

First of all, this movie is not for anyone over the age of 16yrs, and it would help it if you were also female. It was obvious to make Lautner the focal point, and to hopefully have the women swooning. This may have worked, because the teenage girls watching it at the time I did were giggling at every scene he was in...yeah Im nauseous. Its a good thing that this young man has the looks, because he definitely doesn't have the acting chops to carry a whole movie. His skills fall right in line with Channing Tatum (who I loathe as an actor...smh). Lautner sounded like he was reading from a teleprompter, and all his action scenes looked choreographed instead appearing to be real action. It really doesn't get any better, and was a waste for the exceptional acting of Maria Bello and Sigourney Weaver, who must have owed Singleton a favor to appear in this annoying piece of work they call a movie. The storyline is for teens. Adults would only find themselves wanting to vomit...D-

Movies in Review: "Drive"

All you had to do was say Ryan Gosling and there was no doubt that I was going to see this film. But it didn't hurt that his name was also accompanied by a pretty awesome trailer. I was looking forward to seeing action at its best, but instead was hit with a bunch of melodrama...snore...

The directing was awful...and where the hell was the action? Seemed like more of a "love story" gone wrong. There was just way too many pauses in dialogue and action. Every scene with Gosling and Mulligan, I swear only five words were spoken, but the scene lasted 10 min...smh. I was expecting to see some fierce driving...hence the title "Drive"...and the opening scene seemed like a good teaser for what you thought was to come. But that excitement is soon deflated as the movie goes on. There was hardly enough car action, and any other action scenes were just ok. The plot was also weak, and for the life of me I could not understand what the character Shannon (the garage owner) was saying...smh. I also could not understand how police never showed up anywhere, and how someone could walk around with a jacket covered in blood all day and not get questioned...Uuuuuggghhhh...I wanted this movie to be good! Unfortunately it lands on my list of disappointments :/...D!

Movies in Review: "I don't Know How She Does it"

WARNING WARNING...CHICK FLICK...CHICK FLICK ALERT...

This is just my disclaimer for all my men...lol. Yes this film has chick flick all over it, so you shouldn't be surprised that I found it to be the most interesting film that I saw this weekend...lol. Don't get me wrong, there are some men who will actually like it, but you may feel more comfortable watching it on DVD with your partner or wife, instead of sitting in the theatre. So I guess this review is strictly for the ladies...

I loved this film. The things that I liked about it...EVERYTHING! Sarah Jessica Parker was great in this role. It wasn't hard to separate her from her STC character at all. I liked that they didn't put her in NYC, she was in Boston, which helped in the separation. She is funny, spunky, and is very believable as a mother of 2. Greg Kinnear, was a great addition as her husband. The actress who plays "Momo" was my favorite...she cracked me up.

The reason that I think that some men would like it is because I think that it's actually a good movie for couples. Especially those with children, in which both parents are working. It was nice to see the struggle of what every couple goes through put in the manner that they did in this film. I swear everyone will find something that they do or have done, and something that you can relate to. The whole cast was a joy, and although life with children looks like a total struggle, even in this film, I still left feeling like it was a struggle I wanted. And anyone who knows me, knows that says alot!...lol...A!

Movies in Review: "Straw Dogs"

I was very intrigued by the trailer. I was even more interested when the film started because it wasn't totally playing out how it appeared in the trailer. The story was playing out well at first, and I was excited to see how it was going to turn out in the end. Unfortunately before the end could get here, things just started to get weird. There were way too many underlying stories getting introduced in the film and none of them really seemed to lead to anywhere.

For example, it was never really clear what kind of relationship Amy and Charlie use to have. This former relationship also got more confusing to me when the gang bang happened...wtf. But before any of that went down, what was the purpose of the strip tease window scene? Somebody tell me what Niles actually did wrong or was he just being accused? I really feel like I missed something and none of it got answered by the time the credits started rolling. This movie rolled into a bloody mess that had no rhyme or reason. Counting all the corpse on the floor...really...smh. All of this could have been concluded easily if David and Amy would have drove the 40 min to the hospital, instead of getting involved in an 1hr long battle with the locals over an accused sex offender...smh. This movie should have stupid written all over it instead of the word "thrilling" which is used to describe it...D!

Movies in Review: "God Grew Tired of Us"

This 2006 documentary was recommended to me by a friend who was interested to know what I thought. I love recommendations :). I finally had the chance to see it, and it was a great watch. Just to let you know how interesting this documentary was, I watched it late in the evening. A girlfriend of mine was there and she was headed to bed, but as she watched a few minutes, she found herself sitting through the whole thing...

This documentary is about a group of over 25,000 young men from the Sudan called "The Lost Boys", who had to flee their country because they were being hunted and killed. These men traveled by foot thousands of miles for safety, and most made their homes in Kenya at a refugee camp. When you see the pictures of what these boys looked like traveling with no food, clothes, leaving behind everything they had just to reach a safe haven. Some of these boys, now men, have been in this camp for over 10 yrs not knowing where their mothers, fathers, siblings are or if they are still alive. The most interesting part comes when the movie follows 3 of these men as they are placed in the US...wow what a culture shock!

When one of the lost boys says that he will have to learn to use electricity, and thinks that it will be hard...I was like Omg. It's like a different world in the US. You will see them as they adjust to life here, work and support their families in Kenya. We even get to see one man reunite with his mother after 17yrs!

I swear this film will have you seeing how spoiled we are as Americans, and how much we take for granted. It may open your eyes and have you appreciate the small things. To go through so much hardship to feel that God grew tired of you...smh. In comparison I honestly feel like I really shouldn't complain so much. This documentary is a true eye opener to what is going on beyond your own front doors...A+
