Movies in Review: "Crazy Rich Asians"

When I first watched the trailer for this film I was floored, and definitely put it on my list for movies to see. An all Asian cast movie? Yes...I'm here for this. From what I watched in the trailer, there was nothing that was going to keep me from seeing this film. It looked fun, cute and entertaining. I am thrilled to see a film like this to hit theaters and feel we need more like them. The cast looked amazing and I was eager to see what this movie has to offer.

This movie was a box office hit this weekend and for the right reasons. I got everything I watched in the trailer and more. This film's entertainment value was on another level. Can I first talk about how visually stunning this film was? This movie was not lacking in color, which I am a fan of. One of my favorite scenes was the wedding scene. OMG...although this scene was near the end of the movie, it stood out as visually one of the best scenes in the film. Applause to the creative put into that wedding scene. I'd like to also give some love to the cast, who were phenomenal. It is hard not to be drawn to the relationship of Rachel and Nick. They were adorable. I loved how Nick's character described and introduced members of his family at the beginning of the film. It was easy to fall in love with Nick's cousin Astrid, who is stunning, and Rachel's college friend played by Awkwafina, whose family adds life and humor to the story. This film has more than a few characters that you will find yourself loving and drawn to.

This film has entertainment value. You will find yourself drawn to the characters or captured by what you see visually. This movie has more than enough to appeal to. all your senses. This film is fun, cute, humorous, and enough to make it work seeing...A-

Movies in Review: "Mile 22"

Mark Wahlberg is my man when it comes to action thrillers, and there was nothing that you could tell me shouldn't have been great about this movie from the trailer. It had a great cast, action, and everything else I'd expect from an action thriller...right!? In my opinion, my expectations should have been easily met. So Why am I sitting here with the face of disappointment?

Ummmmmmm...this movie went wrong from the opening scene. There was no story or character development in this film. Just a movie with Mark Wahlberg's character yelling from start to finish ~shrugs. This movie had the potential to be great, however it failed miserably. Where was the story? It was a very short hour and 30min of male bravado, shooting scenes and not much else. I have no idea what the hell was happening in this film...seriously. Can someone please fill me in on its purpose because I was more than lost at what was going on.

This movie has no development. I have no clue as to what the story was. It felt like a video game that played out very wrong. It felt like this movie moved at a fast pace for no reason. I wish I had more to say than this movie was a waste of time...D-

Movies in Review: "BLACKkKLANSMAN"

Okaaaaaayyyyyy...so I have to admit, I wasn't really sure about this film. I haven't enjoyed a Spike Lee movie since his 2008 flick Miracle at St. Anna. I watched the trailer for this flick and I wasn't sure how to take it. I thought the trailer was decent enough, but you know how Lee can get with a flick sometimes. What you expected from the trailer has a way of turning out very differently from the film. However, I decided to take my chances, mainly because I'm a fan of Adam Driver, and the film also stars Denzel Washington's son John David Washington in his first lead role. All I know if John David is anything like his father, I will be here for it, so this movie got my money. I have low expectations when it comes to Lee these days, so I wasn't expecting much.

Wow...just wow...this movie is a must see. I don't say this about many films, but when I say it, I mean it. This movie is so riveting and provoking. It will have your mind, eyes and ears open. This has to be one of Lee's best films. It seemed damn near perfect. I loved the way this film was directed. The imagery was exceptionally stunning, especially during the scene when the character Kwame Ture was speaking. Lee has a way of directing some real thought provoking films, but this once exceeds all others. The writing for this film deserves an Oscar. John David held down this lead role just as we'd get from his father. Although John David at times sounds just like his father, which was a little eerie, he has his own style that shines, an exceptional actor. I loved that the sold-out audience I viewed it with was a very mixed crowd. As you know, this film was released on the 1yr anniversary of the Charlottesville Riots in which Heather Heyer was killed. The end of the film is when things got real. This movie based on a true story was based in the early 70's. Lee gives us the live footage of the Charlottesville Riots at the end of the film. A rally that happened in 2017. Opening everyone's eyes to our progression, or lack thereof ~sips tea.

This movie is everything. Believe me when I tell you. By the time credits rolled the audience I viewed it with sat in their seats stunned, then awkwardly exiting the film with applause. Standing ovation for Lee for this one...A+

Movies in Review: "The Meg"

I seriously have not watched a shark film since the Jaws franchise in the 80's, which I thought was amazing for the time. There have been several other shark films released, but none have caught my interest...but The Meg was a totally different story. That trailer caught my attention, especially when I saw the size of that fish. It also helped that Jason Statham is cast in the lead...ijs. Hunky eye candy goes really well with a scary shark. Am I right?...lol. Statham is great in roles like these, so although I didn't expect much, I did expect to be entertained.

I think I got more from The Meg than I expected. Kind of a B rated movie, but a very entertaining one. This move had me totally enthralled. I was on the edge of my seat through most of the film. That shark is a monster Statham gave me the action I expected from here and he delivered it well. I enjoyed the whole cast in this film. Their on-screen chemistry was great, and the humor was on point. This is what really stepped this movie up. It could have been a catastrophe otherwise ~shrug.

This movie isn't a must-see, but I don't think you will find yourself mad at paying to see it. It is definitely filled with 2hrs of pure entertainment. I was very pleased at how much I enjoyed this film and I think you will too...B-

Movies in Review: "Christopher Robin"

What's there not to like about Winnie the Pooh...right!? One of the most lovable characters ever to be introduced to children. Warm, affectionate, cute and cuddly, who doesn't love him? As much as I personally love Pooh, I can't really say I was initially interested in see this film ~shrugs. I thought my animated friends, who have changed into live-action characters, looked weird, Pooh especially. Is it me, or did anyone else think Pooh's nose was way too small? Also, the characters colors were also muted. From the trailer, you could hardly tell that Tigger was orange. All I remember from seeing the trailer is feeling like it looked like a mess. However, I had the choice of this flick, a teen flick, or a female buddy comedy that didn't look that great. With this selection, I took my chances with the bear, and I'm happy I did.

Christopher Robin was magical. I laughed and smile so long my cheeks were numb by the end of the film. This movie gave me that happy, warm, fuzzy feeling inside. I loved it. The characters colors were still a little off for Tigger and Pooh in my opinion, but that's about all that was off. They were the same lovable characters I enjoyed as a child. I'd like to give a round of applause to Brad Garrett who voice Eeyore and gave him life. Eeyore was everything...lol. I thought the story was cute, a little predictable, but cute none the less.

This is entertainment for the whole family. Parents and adults were all laughing with enjoyment. There was so much I enjoyed about this movie that I'd want to see it again just for a feel-good pick me up. I would definitely recommend you take the kids and make a date of it...B+
