Movies in Review: "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice"

This has been one of the most anticipated movies so far this year. There was so much hype being placed around this film, I even started to get a little excited, but I knew better...lol. I think the movie had all the potential in the world to be great, but there were some things I just couldn't get sold on. The first being Ben Affleck as Batman and the second was Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman. Nothing about these actors in the trailer had me sold on their performance as either of these loved characters. I was just hoping I was wrong.

Ummmmmmm...unfortunately, I wasn't. As beautiful as Gadot is, she was killing me as Wonder Woman. I cringed every time she did that stance that was supposed to make her look badass, but to me she just looked like someone wearing a very bad Halloween costume...smh. I was not pleased. I admit Ben Affleck's performance as Batman was way better than his performance as Daredevil, but it still didn't win me over. Am I the only one who thought he looked ridiculously juiced up? All I wanted to do was stick a pin in him and blow some of the air out...Ugh. The story also didn't help win any points either. I was pretty much bored until the last 45min, which is not a good thing because the movie has a running time of 2.5 hrs! Eisenberg as Lex Luther was just ok, even he pushed it over the top a bit too much to make his performance really enjoyable. My favorite character, besides Superman was definitely Jeremy Irons as Alfred. I would love it if he could play this role in the Batman franchise...ijs.

Overall this movies was a blockbuster disappointment. I enjoyed the last 45min, but there wasn't really anything spectacular with it either. The movie is being shown heavily in IMAX and 3D, although it's visually not worth the extra cash. This movie was supposed to be better than good, but I'm having a hard time evening saying it was good...eh...C+

Movies in Review: "The Divergent Series: Allegiant"

I don't really have high expectations for films based from book trilogies. So I wasn't expecting much from the Divergent Series, but I did find some entertainment value in the first 2 installments, enough to make me want to follow this trilogy to the end. However this 3rd installment ruined what the first 2 movies had going for it...smh.

It's not that the first 2 movies were great, but they were at least halfway decent. This movie however was a snore fest. There was very little excitement in this film. The story was dull, and action scenes were scarce. I although initially I didn't feel Shailene Woodley was the best fit for Trist, in the first 2 movies her performance shifted these thoughts, and made her enjoyable to watch. Unfortunately this installment only showed how unfit she is as Trist. She was just seemed dull and tired. Four was enjoyable, but all the action scenes involved him, pushing his character way over the top. The story was far less interesting than the first 2 movies, seeming to repeat the same cycle...Ugh. At a running time of over 2hrs, I could not wait for this nonsense to end.

I was hoping this movie was going to be better than what it was, but I left the theater more than disappointed. If you are following this series, I would wait for this installment to hit Redbox, or reach cable TV. Nothing about it is worth paying for a movie ticket to see...F+

Movies in Review: "10 Cloverfield Lane"

This one had me on the fence because I didn't really get the trailer, but there was something still intriguing about it. Out of all the movies released this weekend, this is the one I was interested in seeing the most because it was a thriller, I love thrillers, and it starred John Goodman, I love him too. I had no idea what I was getting into, so my expectations were really low.

This movie was not short on thrills. Although filmed mostly in a small confined area it made use of everything perfectly to create audience reaction. I jumped and gripped my seat a number of times. There were also burst of adrenaline, only adding to the thrills. The cast was great, especially Goodman, who is just crazy as hell. Like you will seriously be on the edge of your seat anticipating what he will do next. There are so many twists in the story that you will find yourself wondering what is true. This movie did not lack entertainment value, and I enjoyed it up until the last 15min when I found myself rolling my eyes and sucking my teeth at the conclusion of it all...like seriously?

This movie is definitely worth seeing, and some of you may have a more positive reaction to the ending than I did ~shrugs. The end didn't ruin this movie for me, but I wanted to punch someone for ending it that way. Kinda felt like I didn't really get closure, just nonsense...lol. Go see it for the thrills, and don't think about the ending...A-

Movies in Review: "The Perfect Match"

Although I think Terrance J is uber attractive and can handle the sexy male role very well, he doesn't have the acting chops to take on the lead in anything...I'm sorry, but I'm just saying. Then let's add in Cassie as the leading lady...what???. Yes she is great as any leading lady in anyone's video, I'll give her that, but a role where she actually has to speak??? Ummmmmmm...no. Someone must have owed Sean Combs a favor...ijs. Needless to say, I had no interest to see this movie, but then again none of the movies released this weekend had me excited, so I went to this one just because of the eye candy.

To be quite honest, the movie wouldn't have been half bad if it wasn't for Terrance J and Cassie, whose acting skills were killing me softly. Terrance J was way too unbelievable to hold this role down, and for some reason, he just seemed small in the lead. Like the role needed someone with more weight...if you get where I'm coming from. And Cassie ~rolling eyes...She is gorgeous as hell but I never want to have to see her "acting" again. There storyline was the worse...soooooo juvenile. The only thing that kept me from walking out of the theater were the co-stars Donald Faison, Robert Christopher Riley, and Dascha Polanco, who were all super entertaining, especially Faison. I would have loved to see more of Faison and his huge veneers...lol. I'm just saying his teeth sorta took over every scene he was in...Ha!

If you're a man or woman and only have interest in seeing a half-naked Terrance or Cassie, then this movie is for you. If you are interested in more, I'd save my money because this isn't really hitting on much. Cassie should have just cast Terrance J in her next video and saved us all from wasting our time with this movie...ijs...D

Movies in Review: "Zootopia"

This was definitely this weekend’s hottest movie ticket. Theaters were packed with kids and adults wanting to check out Disney's newest animation feature. My kid has been asking me every day since last week if we were going to see this one. I have never seen him this excited about a movie. I gotta admit, I was looking forward to this one just as much as he was. Once I saw the Sloth's in the trailer, I was sold...lol

Omg...this movie was Waaaayyyy better than I expected it to be. I usually won't knock any animation because there is always a very cute message for the kids to take home, but this movie was even more. The animation and characters were great. Kids always identify with animals, and these characters were some of the most interesting ones I have seen in a while. They were cute, funny, and visually appealing. Although I'm not surprised by this, I was a little thrown off by how great the story line was. It was one of the best written stories I've seen since Inside Out. Very well done. Hopps and Wilde had me cracking up. The Sloths were freaking hilarious as in the trailer...lol. Yeah...I kind of loved this movie.

I was expecting to see something cute and fun, but they definitely outdid themselves with the story, which I found to be exceptionally interesting and entertaining. As much as we all loved Inside Out, this one has some of that same value that should be seen by all...A+

Movies in Review: "Whiskey Tango Foxtrot"

Hmmmmmm....what to say about this one??? It's hard to say much because I honestly could have taken or left this movie. The trailer really didn't do much for me to spark much interest, except for maybe the cast, but even that didn't have me wanting to run to the theater to see this one. However I do like Tina Fey, in most movies, and this seemed unlike any role I've seen her in recently, so I took the chance and went.

Hmmmmmmm....still not sure what to say because I definitely didn't love the movie, but I also didn't hate it either. I feel a little duped because they are promoting this movie as a huge comedy because of Fey, but the film is actually a dramedy that has way more drama than comedy. The parts that were supposed to be funny fell a little flat with Fey, but the character Iain was a hoot...thank goodness. I enjoyed Fey's performance, but there was too much lacking in the story. There was very little build-up or background on Fey's character. Also the rest of the story just had way too many holes, and felt a little unfinished. It had its entertaining moments, but those were few.

I don't feel like I got what was being marketed about this film. It wasn't at all what I expected. A little more depth in the story would have improved this movie drastically. It's not horrible, but not at all what you think it is. Cute enough movie for a day at home alone, but I would probably save my coins on purchasing a movie ticket...C+
