Movies in Review: "Snitch"

I had very little interest in seeing this movie because I did not believe that Dwayne Johnson had the acting chops for a lead role. I also found very little interest in the trailer. The only reason I went to see it is because the only other major release film was Dark Skies, and I had no interest or intention to see this one at all. Horror films are so lame today, so Snitch won.

Well well Mr Johnson, to my surprise he has proven me wrong. I enjoyed Dwayne Johnson in this role. Aside from his physical appearance (ladies he is looking fine as hell in this movie!!!), he did a nice job in the lead. He was natural and believable, and was a strong presence in every scene. The story was decent, a little under developed in some areas, but there was enough to understand the story. It would have been nice to add some scenes of what was happening to Johnson's son in jail, and more background on the relationship of his friend who snitched him out. But that's just my opinion...

All in all, I didn't mind this movie. From what has been released since January, this wasn't all that bad. There is a decent amount of action, and sexy Dwayne Johnson...what more could a girl ask for. There aren't many great movies in the theatre now, but out of all of them, this one isn't bad...C+

Movies in Review: "Beautiful Creatures"

I didn't find anything too interesting about the trailer for this film, except that Viola Davis was cast in it. I may have passed on seeing this one had anything else this weekend been released. But that wasn't the case so I went to see it...and it was cute.

I don't have too much to say about this one except that it was better than I thought it would be. There is nothing really exciting about this film, but it does have a cute story and a decent cast that brought it all together. My favorite character was the actor who played Ethan Wate. There is something so endearing about him. I haven't seen this actor in much, but I look forward to seeing him again on the big screen real soon.

The past few months have not provided too many must-see films. As a matter of fact, most have been major disappointments. With that being said, this movie isn't bad. It's more of a chick flick, and would be nice for a girls night out, or a date movie...B-

Movies in Review: "A Good Day to Die Hard"

Yippee Ki-Yay! Another Die Hard movie! Whooohoooo!...This is the excitement I felt when I watched the trailer for this film. Excitement filled my body as a fan of Bruce Willis, and the Die Hard series. I have anticipated being reunited with John McClane for months. After seeing a number of disappointing films this month, I was sure Die Hard would not fall into this category. Boy was I sadly mistaken...smh

This has to be the worse Die Hard movie from this series. I was over this film within the first 10min...wth. This film lacked everything that made the earlier movies so appealing. Instead of fun, wit, and charm there is just a lot of senseless movement, like the overdone car chase scene at the beginning of the film. I have never seen a car chase that I wanted to end so badly. The chase sequence was just as hard to follow as the point of this movie. Hardly anything made sense, starting with McClane's estranged son. Ummmmm...where the hell did he come from? I do recall a daughter, but I do not recall a son. And to make matters worse, a back story explaining their relationship was never provided. As audience members, we are forced to take their relationship for what it is...womp womp.

This is an action film with too much action and not much of anything else. The direction of this film was horrible. This was the first time John McClane came off over the top and fake. The few scenes with dialogue were poorly executed, case in point, the cab scene. Seriously? This scene could have been edited down to a 1min shot...horrible. I understand this is Die Hard, but it seems dying is nearly impossible for McClane and his son, making the entire film horribly unbelievable.

This movie was a major disappointment. I wasn't expecting much, but was hoping for a good time. By the second scene, I wanted out. Take my word for it, you will find yourself leaving the theatre hoping that McClane Jr & Sr never live to see another day...D-

Movies in Review: "Identity Thief"

Am I the only one who was expecting to laugh out loud at this movie. I have anticipated this film for months. I am a huge fan of Jason Bateman in comedic movies, and was hoping that Melissa McCarthy would deliver the same comedic performance from Bridemaids. When I entered the theatre Sunday afternoon there was no doubt in my mind that I would leave satisfied. Unfortunately...that wasn't the case...

I don't know if my expectations were too high, but everyone else in the theatre seemed to really enjoy the film. It even received a few claps from some movie goers at the end, but I wasn't one of them. I know the only thing you want to know is "Was it funny?". My answer would have to be...not really :/. I chuckled once or twice, and laughed during the snake scene. I dosed off a few times also. Unfortunately for Bateman and McCarthy, the writing wasn't that great, so their characters weren't able to comically shine. The story was a bit all over the place. For the life of me I can't understand why there were so many people chasing after McCarthy's character, and who was the guy in prison? Characters seemed to be thrown in the film to fill up space. Bateman and McCarthy were decent, but I wanted more from the both of them...eh...

I think this film had the potential to be good, but was just ok at best. As I said earlier in this review, the other audience members seemed to enjoy it. Its a cute movie, just don't go in expecting much...C+

Movies in Review: "Side Effects"

Since returning back from my leave, I have yet to see a movie that satisfied me.  I have been walking out of the theatre with nothing but disappointment :(. With that said, I was counting on Side Effects to turn this around. The trailer looked interesting enough to offer a thrilling experience. The cast was icing on the cake with Jude Law, Rooney Mara, and Catherine Zeta-Jones. Ok Channing Tatum was also in it, but I think he should feel blessed to be cast as a co-star beside everyone else. I'm sorry...but I still have very little respect for his acting abilities...I'm just sayin...

I liked it...ok so I may have dozed off a bit here and there, but that's because the mood is kind of dark, and it was kind of slow at the beginning. This movie is filled with more subtle thrills than shocking, so you would be wise to pay attention. The writing and direction were great. By the middle of the film I had no idea how it would end. Once the pace of the film picked up it had my full attention. The twist was unexpected, making this movie worth seeing.

This film won't be winning any awards, but its still a good one to see. You will enjoy seeing everything come together in the end. Parts of the storyline has been done before, but the cast brings life to their characters that you may not notice...B+

Movies in Review: "Bullet to the Head"

All I can say is this movie was a disaster from the word GO! Whose idea was it to bring this testosterone filled BS to the big screen. I know no one with half a brain cell would find this movie interesting, I know I didn't. I kept dosing off on it, but don't worry I saw enough to still give you a summary...

There was shooting, fighting, more shooting, and in between there was some weak dialogue spoken that didn't help in building, or moving the weak storyline along. Stallone was like a bad "tough guy" on steroids. Nothing he did or said made sense. Detective Taylor Kwon, played by Sung Kang (Fast & Furious), was an idiot. His character was weak and kept getting pushed around by Stallone, which made absolutely no sense.

With a horrible cast, poor writing and directing, Bullet to the Head had me wishing someone would pay me the favor. The only thing I got out of seeing this film was a few Zzzzzz's, but I prefer to have my money back...F!

Movies in Review: "Warm Bodies"

I was this close to taking the weekend off for movie reviews 1. Because it was Superbowl weekend, and who cares anything about movies when I am looking forward to seeing a bunch of bulky, sweaty men run around on a field in tight uniforms :)...I'm just sayin...2. Because none of this weekend's new releases looked interesting at all. But because I am dedicated to this blog I couldn't allow this weekend's pages to go by blank. So I went to the movies...

I can't believe that anyone who saw the trailer for Warm Bodies marked it on their calendar to see it. I found nothing intriguing about the trailer at all. The only thing that did catch my attention was that John Malkovich (one of my favorite actors) was cast in it. Unfortunately his role was too small in the movie to actually make it worth giving credit...

This film is a romantic comedy that moves very slow. I was hoping that the film's pace would pick up somewhere, but it didn't. Watching this movie was kind of like watching paint dry. There was nothing too exciting about it. The relationship between Julie and "R" was cute, but not interesting enough to keep you vested in the film. There was very little humor, so I find it hard to credit it as a "comedy". This movie didn't move me at all, and had me wishing I had stayed my butt home in bed.

All in all, I found this movie to be a bore. If for some reason you had some interest in seeing it, save your money and wait until you find a bootleg laying out in the street...~yawn~...D-
